What Meghan Markle Thinks About the Allegations Against Prince Andrew
The biggest royal scandal in recent memory is the accusation Prince Andrew raped Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein‘s alleged victims. The scandal led the prince to step down from his royal duties for the time being. Many have wondered: What does Meghan Markle think about all of this?
Prince Andrew and the royal scandal of the century
Markle hasn’t made public statements regarding Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein and the allegations against him. However, she has reportedly expressed her view on his controversial BBC interview in private. In the interview, the prince denied any illegal actions on his part. He also said that he did not remember ever meeting Roberts. He said if he had sex with Roberts, he would have remembered doing so as “without putting too fine a point on it, if you’re a man it is a positive act to have sex with somebody.”
Prince Andrew expressed his view that a photograph purporting to show him upstairs in the home of Epstein’s friend, Ghislaine Maxwell, with his arm around Roberts was fake. “I don’t remember going upstairs in the house because that photograph was taken upstairs and I am not entirely convinced that…I mean that is…that is what I would describe as me in that…in that picture but I can’t…we can’t be certain as to whether or not that’s my hand on her whatever it is, left…left side.”
The prince also explained his decision to stay at Epstein’s mansion following the financier’s conviction, saying that he wanted to end his relationship with Epstein. “I felt it was the honourable and right thing to do and I admit fully that my judgement was probably coloured by my tendency to be too honourable but that’s just the way it is.
Meghan Markle is reportedly appalled
The interview proved to be controversial for a number of reasons. Some felt the Prince Andrew did not appear to be concerned with the well-being of Epstein’s alleged victims. Others were appalled by the prince’s admission he has no regrets regarding his relationship with Epstein or his decision to stay at Epstein’s mansion.
The Daily Beast reported Markle was “horrified” by this incredibly controversial interview. According to Elle, a friend of the duchess said the interview “left everyone watching it wanting to curl under a table. It just got worse and worse and worse.” Markle was supposedly “horrified by the manner in which the Duke of York dismissed allegations that he had sex with a teenager.”
Although it is unknown if the duchess specifically objected to any other aspects of the interview, the violation of women goes against everything she believes in. As an outspoken feminist, the duchess has been a champion for victims of sexual assault and violence against women. Speaking on the subjects at a school in South Africa, Markle said “This is not just a South African issue, this is a global problem that can only find solutions with the attention and work of everyone, regardless of gender, status, politics, race or nationality.”
