What ‘Real Housewives of New York’s’ Bethenny Frankel Says About Her Relationship With Boyfriend Paul Bernon

Skinnygirl founder and Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel recently stopped by Live with Kelly and Ryan for a chat. One of the topics she touched on with the hosts was her relationship with film producer and real estate executive Paul Bernon.

A healthy balance

According to Us Weekly, the two started dating in October. Frankel told hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest that she feels “happy” in a balanced way. “I’m happy in a way that’s different,” Frankel said in the interview. “Not a high or a low, just a balance — which, if you know my personality at all, it’s not often that balanced. But I feel just balanced and healthy.”

When Seacrest asked if the reason for her newfound harmony is Bernon, she replied, “I think so. Yeah. My boyfriend’s very calm and centered and, yeah, balancing. And I’m just settled.”

Frankel referred to her former relationship with Dennis Shields, who died last August of a suspected prescription drug overdose, according to the New York Post. “I came off a relationship that was the opposite,” Frankel told Ripa and Seacrest. “We’ve all been in that kind of relationship, where you’re up and down, in and out, and you’re not ever sure of your footing… And because I’m older, I wasn’t sure if it’s just because I can’t really have that same relationship. I have a career, I have a daughter, I’ve had a nasty divorce. So I wasn’t sure that I could have just that normal, beautiful, loving relationship that you remember from high school or college or something. And that’s what it feels like.”

Bernon is a life-saver … literally

Frankel has been vocal in the past about her life-threatening allergy to fish. According to People, last December Frankel went unconscious and had to be rushed to the hospital after consuming soup that, unbeknownst to her, contained fish. It was Bernon who found her passed out and got her immediate medical attention.

She tweeted about the incident and referred to Bernon, posting, “I was with someone who went to get me a @Benadryl & returned & I was unconscious. He managed to call 911 & get pill down my throat w water. He saved my life.”

She alerted her Twitter followers the following day on her status, posting, “I have rare fish allergy. Sun, I had soup, itched & was unconscious for 15 mins then to ER & ICU for 2 days w BP of 60/40.I couldn’t talk, see, thought I had a stroke & dying & told if 5 mins later I’d be dead. 911 & EPI saved me. I’ll never not carry an #epipen@newtonwellesley xo.”

Pursuing health in other ways

Frankel has recently posted on Twitter about a new exercise initiative that she began this summer, and encouraged her followers to join her. She also recommended picking up her best-seller from 2009. “Ok… so from now until Sept 15, we all… make a significant fitness change. Let’s aim for 4 days a week/ 45 mins-do something! For the food part, read “Naturally Thin.” Believe me, that part is easy. But I’ll give you tips every day. For today, let’s commit to the fitness. U in?”

The Skinnygirl founder and guest investor on ABC’s Shark Tank told Ripa and Seacrest that she was focused on doing exercise that she enjoys so she would stick with it. “I’m working out now. People think that because I have a brand called Skinnygirl that I’m not eating and always working out. I always do what I can, where I am and I don’t like crazy exercise where you’re being yelled at or torturing yourself,” Frankel said.

She shared one of her favorite forms of exercise which she also finds restorative. “I’ll walk on the beach for an hour everyday because it’s enjoyable. It’s therapeutic. For me, it’s doing things that we love… I’m someone who prefers to be just consistent about doing something that makes you feel good… It feels good to be healthy.”
