What ‘RHOBH’ Denise Richards Says About Parenting Her Three Daughters and Being on the Bravo TV Reality Show
Denise Richards of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills recently posted a possible hint on Instagram that she will returning for season 10 of the reality show. With three daughters to raise, a Lifetime film premiering in September, and her reality show gig looking like it’s a go, Richards had plenty to talk about in a recent interview.
Richards is mom to daughters Sam, 15, and Lola, 14, from her previous marriage to actor Charlie Sheen. The actress also adopted daughter Eloise, 7, after her divorce from the actor. When the reality star was asked about her own teenage years in an interview with SheKnows, Richards revealed that she had a relatively drama-free adolescence. “I was a pretty good girl, I didn’t get into trouble, I wasn’t promiscuous, I never did drugs,” she said. “My dad put the fear of God in us that if we ever did, we’d be kicked out. We lived in Illinois… The thought of sneaking out when there’s a blizzard was not appealing.”
Richards focuses on instilling gratitude and common sense in her daughters, and hopes to teach them that celebrity status doesn’t give you a license to throw your values out the window. “I don’t want my kids to be growing up being entitled. I think it’s important for kids to learn that there are consequences if mistakes are made, and you can’t just be however you want to be in life,” she explained.
Praising her husband
Richards married Aaron Phypers last year, and has been very vocal about her appreciation of his parenting to her girls. Phypers is planning on adopting Richards’ daughter Eloise, making his status as her father official. “He and I are definitely great partners with the kids and we’re definitely on the same page, which makes it so much easier,” the reality star told SheKnows. “We have a strong family unit, we’re very secure and I’m so happy that Eloise has such a wonderful dad and my girls have a great stepdad.”
While it was a transition for Richards’ older daughters to welcome Phypers to the family, Richards shared that they were able to form a solid relationship rather quickly. “They saw how — right away — how he treated me and how he was with them and I think they felt comfortable with him right away. I didn’t share my dating life with them, I was very private about it, so it was an adjustment, but it was a good adjustment,” she said.
Life as a ‘Real Housewife’
Richards recently put up a humorous post on Instagram with a picture of ‘Botched Botox Barbie’ along with the caption, “Seeing this picture made me think of #RHOBH 💉🥴 #MySecondSeason #Season10.” Fans are hopeful this is her way of revealing that she’ll be back for season 10, but Richards didn’t confirm anything, simply saying, “Everyone’s going to have to wait and see.”
When asked about her experience on the Bravo TV reality show, Richards seemed to enjoy her time on season nine. “I actually had a lot more fun than I thought,” she said in the interview. “I had a really good time and all the women were really welcoming and I had fun with them.”
Overall, Richards didn’t seem to take her role on Housewives more seriously than necessary, thus calming any pre-show jitters. “I went into it just wanting to have fun and a new experience. I don’t think of it as a job, I think of it as me having these moments with these wonderful women, and people seeing a slice of life of my personal life,” she said. “I didn’t want to go in with any preconceived ideas of what things would be like or who was what or — you know, their personalities. I think that’s something that worked to my [advantage].”
As for the drama that ensued during the reunion episodes, especially with co-star Camille Grammer, Richards chooses to shake it off. “I think any time you get a group of women together with strong opinions, you can have a heated discussion and different voices about that, which I think is great. But then: resolve and move on. So, that’s how I look at everything. And I am a calm person, it takes a lot to make me not calm,” she shared. “Especially on the trips — when we’re on trips together and having fun — you know, our kids aren’t there, our husbands are making sure everything’s taken care of at home, so why not have a good time?”
Fans are hoping to see more of Richards on season 10 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!
