What Stops Meghan Markle and Prince Harry From Leaving the Royal Family?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently touring Africa, raising awareness of some of the country’s charities and making a lot of new friends. The trip, while it is definitely not a holiday for the royal couple, is a nice break from all of the criticism that they have faced within the past few months.

It was a historically bad summer for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they suffered one round of bad press after another. The negativity has been so bad that it has caused some royal watchers to wonder whether Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan could actually leave the royal family.

Prince Harry was beloved by the public from the time he was a small baby. When his mother, Princess Diana, tragically died in 1997, royal fans became even more fond of the redhead.

Even though he suffered some foibles and missteps as a teenager and young man, Prince Harry always seemed to return to the public’s good graces. That is until he met and married American actress Meghan Markle. The press immediately took a strong dislike to Markle, and the Suits actress started receiving an onslaught of negative press.

Eventually, Prince Harry was swept up in the drama and started becoming a target as well. Over the summer, the prince was hammered for taking a firm stand on preaching about environmental awareness while simultaneously taking several environmentally unfriendly private jet flights. The couple was also slammed for their decision to keep their son, Archie Harrison, away from the spotlight, only allowing a small handful of photos to be released. According to critics, royals who earn their keep from taxpayer money shouldn’t be so adamant about privacy.

Could Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leave the royal family?

The summer ended with a bang for Prince Harry and Markle, as the duchess ended her maternity leave and the family jetted to Africa to work with various charities on the ground. Still, royal watchers are looking to the future and wondering just how much the string of bad press affected the couple.

A royal expert recently stated that it is completely within Markle and Prince Harry’s rights to “ditch” royal life completely and walk away from their life of privilege. The expert pointed out that there is some precedent for this, as Princess Diana herself resigned from her royal duties following a period of intense scrutiny.

Still, even if Prince Harry and Markle have the right and ability to walk away from royal life, it seems very unlikely that they will do so. After all, they have access to the kind of life that most people could only dream of. Also, the two are able to do a lot of good in their high-profile positions that they might not otherwise be able to accomplish.

What’s next for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?

Throughout the next week, Prince Harry and Markle will be continuing their tour of Africa, working with various charities and meeting with dignitaries to raise awareness of different organizations. The tour has gotten off to a good start, with some of the most extensive footage and photos of Baby Archie Harrison that the public has seen yet.

It is very possible that this trip could turn the tide of negative publicity and start allowing the public to see them in a whole new, positive light. By the time Prince Harry and Markle return to England, they could be coming back to more fans than ever before.
