What Will Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank Name Their Child?
Now that there is another royal baby on the way, fans are starting to take bets about what the sex of the baby will be and what name they could choose for their little one. Here are some of the names that could already be in the running.
Will Eugenie and Brooksbank’s child have a royal title?
While the baby will be born to a blood princess, he or she likely won’t get a regal title.
During an interview with Town & Country just before the pair’s wedding in 2018, royal historian Carolyn Harris said that “Princess Eugenie’s children will not have titles unless the queen decides to bestow an earldom on Jack Brooksbank.”
That’s because in the U.K. titles are passed down via the male line. Therefore, since Brooksbank doesn’t have one, neither will his children.
Queen Elizabeth II could actually offer their baby a title anyway just like she did with Princess Anne’s children then it would be up to Eugenie and Brooksbank to accept it or turn it down. Princess Anne decided not to go with the courtesy titles for her kids.
What the pair might name their baby
It’s commonplace for royals to name their newborns after kings and queens of the past as well as other traditional regal names. In fact, both Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, got their names from other members of the royal family. Eugenie is named after Queen Victoria’s daughter Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, and Beatrice is named after the youngest of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s children.
So what names might Eugenie and Brooksbank go with? The Express noted that if they have a girl the couple choose Victoria, Helena, Alice, Arabella, Grace, or even Beatrice as a direct nod to Eugenie’s big sis. Sarah after her mother is another option. It’s also highly likely that they will pay tribute to the queen and have Elizabeth as a middle name.
For a boy, bookies have Arthur and Edward as strong possibilities.
“The early betting suggests they may opt for Arthur or Victoria, but we can’t rule out a slightly more left-field royal name,” said Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes.
Who some other royal children are named after
Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s son Prince George gets his first name from the one Queen Elizabeth’s father took as king in honor of his own father. The prince’s middle names are Alexander and Louis. The former is the male version of Her Majesty’s middle name, which is Alexandra, and the latter is in honor of Prince Philip’s uncle, Louis Mountbatten.
George’s sister’s full name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Her middle names are of course nods to her great-grandmother and the late Princess Diana, who is her paternal grandmother. Charlotte’s first name is the female version of her grandfather Prince Charles. She’s also named after Kate’s sister Pippa, whose middle name is Charlotte.
As for the youngest of the Cambridge children, Prince Louis Arthur Charles shares two of his names with his older brother and a middle name with his grandpa, Prince Charles.
