What’s Happened to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Heart-Shaped Island Post-Split?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s split in 2016 may or may not have come as a surprise to fans, but it certainly broke some hearts. Though they had a long run, neither had started the relationship without their share of baggage and happily ever after was never a guarantee.

Now, several years after the split, they have each continued to grow their careers: Pitt with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Jolie with Maleficent 2, but despite moving on in most aspects of their lives, their divorce proceedings are still keeping them tied up.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie started their relationship under a hail storm of controversy. They had begun to fall for each other during the filming of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004, long before Pitt split with then-wife and America’s sweetheart, Jennifer Aniston.

Many were critical of the new couple at the time, but whether they loved them or hated them, fans and the media alike ate it up. Had there ever been a more smolderingly attractive pairing?

Despite the controversy, they settled into their lives together, making headlines for their various adventures, not the least of which was their international adoptions.

For years, the two seemed inseparable and solid as a rock. They were together for over ten years and had six children together before they officially got married in 2014.

The couple, once affectionately known as Brangelina, ultimately split in 2016, just two years after their sharing wedding vows.

How are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s assets being split in the divorce?

Divorce is messy and difficult for any couple, but whereas as the average couple may have to split up one house, Pitt and Jolie have a web of properties and assets to sort through.

The couple’s estimated net worth is a combined $400 million, with Pitt’s wealth reportedly accounting for $300 million of that. It’s no wonder then that the two have been having a difficult time dividing everything up. Millions of dollars and acres of land are on the line, and even in the most amenable circumstances, that’s tough.

Despite being in the public eye, they have been careful to remain private about the divorce proceedings. If you were to ignore the rumors, the public only knows the broadest of points: The custody battle was reportedly heated at the start but has since been worked out, Pitt is paying child support to Jolie, and at least one property is still under negotiations.

One of the last big pieces of property the two can’t come to an accord on is their winery and historic property, Château Miraval, located in France.

Despite the final ownership of the château being in limbo, the winery continues to produce and innovate. Just days ago it was reported that it will soon release a new rosé champagne.

What will happen to Brangelina’s heart-shaped island?

Many fans are wondering what will happen to the couple’s heart-shaped island. Rumors swirled around in 2013 that Jolie had bought an island in New York, named Petra for Pitt.

Huffington Post even featured a video showing construction of the Frank Lloyd Wright house on the property, a supposed present for Pitt’s upcoming 50th birthday.

Unfortunately such claims had no basis in reality and many news outlets, swept up in the excitement, didn’t do their due diligence.

The island does exist, and it does have a Frank Lloyd Wright house on it (though even this distinction is up for debate), but Jolie never bought it and may have never even inquired about buying it.

Some news reports did come out just days later debunking the claim, but the story stuck. Who wouldn’t want to think of Brangelina, basking in each other’s arm on their very own private, heart-shaped island?

Despite the romantic imagery, it’s a good thing Jolie didn’t buy it. That’s one less property for the two busy celebs to worry about as they finish up their complicated divorce.
