What’s Next for Robert Downey Jr. After ‘Avengers: Endgame’?
Robert Downey Jr. (also known as RDJ) was born April 4, 1965, in New York City, New York. His acting career spans more than four decades and has given him an incredible listing of credits that number very close to 100. Of these numerous roles, RDJ is best known as Iron Man or Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is also well known for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the detective’s latest adaptation. He has also appeared in Saturday Night Live, Ally McBeal, Gothika, The Shaggy Dog, and Zodiac.
Recently – and much to the dismay of many avid fans – Downey hinted he might be retiring from his much-beloved role as Iron Man after the 2019 release of Avengers:
‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019)
While many fans may be devastated that Robert Downey Jr. may no longer be playing the role of Iron Man, they will have one last confirmed chance to see him at his finest on April 16, 2019. Avengers: Endgame will have the group of superheroes teaming up one last time to defeat Thanos. The plot tells us that they will be attempting to undo the unraveling of the universe where half of the population (including some Avengers) were wiped from existence.
While not a lot has been said about Avengers: Endgame, the word is that the opening scene will feature Tony Stark (Iron Man) attempting to call Pepper Potts from the planet he was last seen on in Avengers: Infinity War.
‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’ (2020)
Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the title character in this newest adaptation of the classic story of a physician who discovers he can talk to animals. This discovery leads to a great many adventures. Interestingly enough, RDJ is not the only Avengers alumni to be appearing in this film. Tom Holland, who plays a young Spiderman, will be voicing one of the characters in the movie.
‘All Star Weekend’
The release date and casting roles haven’t yet been released for this film, but a general casting list has. Besides Downey, the list includes big names like Eva Longoria, Gerard Butler, Benicio Del Toro, and Jamie Foxx. According to IMDB, All Star Weekend is about “two buddies who form a rivalry over their favorite American basketball player.”
‘Sherlock Holmes 3’
RDJ will once again reprise his role as the super sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, in the third installment of the most recent franchise. The film is scheduled to be released to theaters on December 22, 2021. There is no information on the plot as of yet since the movie is in the pre-production phase. There was a partial casting list released, however, which confirms that Jude Law will once again be playing Doctor John Watson.
Untitled John Brinkley Biopic
This film is also in the pre-production phase. As of yet, it does not have a scheduled release date nor does it have an official casting list. The only confirmed casting decision is Robert Downey Jr. in the starring role.
The film will tell the story of John Brinkley – a 20th-century con man who claimed to be a doctor to scam his way into fame and fortune. Brinkley elaborated on his lies by using fake medicine and a popular radio broadcast.
