When are the 2019 Oscars?

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. The Oscars will air live on ABC beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST /8:00 p.m. EST. If you don’t care about the actual Oscars ceremony, and you really just want to see what all of your favorite celebrities are wearing, be sure to tune in a couple of hours before the show starts for red-carpet coverage.

Who is hosting the Oscars?

Though the 2019 Academy Award nominations were recently announced, there is still no host in sight for the 2019 Oscars ceremony. It looks like the Academy intends to press forward without a host, which is something they haven’t done since their 1988 Academy Awards. It was a disastrous show that started with a musical number between Rob Lowe and an unknown actress wearing a Snow White costume. It was so bad that it ended the actress’ career before it even got a chance to begin.

The real reason why no one wants to host the Oscars

With hours of rehearsal time, joke writing, preparation, and costume changes –along with the responsibility of running a smooth show, hosting the Oscars is just not worth the hassle for many celebrities.

Comedian Seth McFarlane who hosted the ceremony in 2013 explained to Entertainment Weekly, “Look, it’s a gig that has all eyes on it. And when you’re doing something that’s that much in the spotlight, with that much focus on it, that much intensity, you’re going to have a lot of opinions from a lot of people. I’m trying to think of the last time that I read a review of the Oscars the next day where everyone is raving about it—it’s been a long time.”

Who is nominated for an Academy Award in 2019?

The Academy recently announced their Oscar nominations for 2019 and there are a few shockers. Black Panther made history as the first superhero film to ever be nominated for Best Picture. Though Bradly Cooper and Lady Gaga got nominated for their performances in A Star is Born, and the film got nominated for Best Picture, Cooper was snubbed for a directing nod.

The controversial film Green Book got several nominations including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali. Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma and the period drama, The Favourite have tied for most nominations with ten nods each. Find the full list of nominations here.
