When Can You Watch ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 5 on Netflix?

Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian comedy series that airs on Pop TV in the U.S. However, most became familiar with the show when it became available to stream on Netflix. So when will the fifth season be out? Here’s what we know.

First of all, here’s the low-down on Schitt’s Creek. The comedic series follows a family, the Roses, who lose their fortune, their home, and most of their worldly possessions due to sleazy business manager. So Johnny and Moira, along with their adult children, David and Alexis, start over in the small town of Schitt’s Creek.

At the start of the show, the members of the family are somewhat estranged, having spent most of their lives using their money to do what they please. But living together in a run-down motel and trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces brings them closer together.

Patriarch Johnny Rose is portrayed by comedian and actor Eugene Levy (far right), who you may recognize from the American Pie films. He is also the co-creator of the series, alongside his son, Dan Levy (second from left), who also plays his fictional offspring.

But that’s not all of the familial connections. Second from the right in the above photo is actress Sarah Levy, Dan’s sister and Eugene’s daughter. In Schitt’s Creek, she plays Twyla Sands, who runs the cafe where the family spends much of their time.

How many Emmy nominations did ‘Schitt’s Creek’ get this year?

Occasionally, it takes the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences a season (or two) to pick up on series’ greatness, the way it recently did with the Amazon/BBC series Fleabag. But rarely does it take them five seasons, as is the case with Schitt’s Creek.

At long last, the show has received its due. After years of other nods at the Canadian Screen Awards, and then last year’s recognition at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Schitt’s Creek is nominated for four Emmy Nominations: One for Levy, one for Catherine O’Hara, one for costumes, and for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Season 6 will be the show’s last

This year will be Schitt’s Creek‘s second-to-last shot at taking home an Emmy. Back in March 2019, as the fifth season was coming to a close, it received a pick up for a sixth season. However, with that good news came some bad news: This was to be the final season of the series.

Creator Dan Levy talked about this decision recently, saying that it feels “like the right time to say goodbye to this family,” adding that they want to “end on a high note with our fans and to give them exactly what they wanted without overstaying our welcome.”

Here’s when ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 5 will be available

If you’re already mourning the upcoming end of Schitt’s Creek (which is likely due out in early 2020), fear not — there’s still more to come. For those in the U.S. who haven’t yet watched Season 5 (or who want to watch it again), all 14 episodes will be available to stream on Netflix on Oct. 10, 2019.
