When Did ‘Married at First Sight’ Alum Sam Role Secretly Marry Her Husband?

Meeting your spouse at the altar is not the normal order of events in most marriages. But for contestants on Married at First Sight, it’s both a frightening and exciting reality. Sometimes these spontaneous marriages end up in lasting love and babies, while others aren’t so lucky.

Married at First Sight alum Sam Role knows this all too well. Her marriage with Neil Bowlus in season three of the show ended with Bowlus ultimately deciding to split from Role.

Though she was devastated at the time, Role has since entered into a new relationship with beau Chris Wise. The couple got engaged over Wise’s birthday weekend in January of 2018.

The couple has had somewhat of a whirlwind romance, announcing a pregnancy shortly after their engagement.

“I was so excited to find out that I was having a girl!” Role told E! News of the pregnancy. “I will be the first one to give my mom and dad a little girl and can’t wait to do so many mom and daughter things! “The one thing I’m excited the most for is to be able to have a little mini us to watch grow up into a beautiful and strong woman…and all the shopping we will get to do- IF that’s her thing, of course.”

During all of the excitement of the couple having a baby on the way, the engagement news sort of fell by the wayside. But recently Role announced that the wedding plans may not have been pushed back as far as we originally thought.

Secret Marriage

Earlier this month, Role announced that she and her fiance had actually been married since last year!

“Chris and I are soooo happy to finally be able to share our wedded bliss with the world,” Sam told E! News. “Chris found me at a time when I was looking at alternative routes to start a family and he still chose to stay by my side through it all. Picking my husband, with the support of my ex-husband and my MAFS family, has been surreal but so fulfilling.”

According to her interview with People, the couple got married on April 20, 2018. She stated that she and her husband wanted to keep the news private for as long as possible. Judging by the fact that they were able to keep it under wraps for almost 10 months, we’d say they did a pretty good job.

 Married at First Sight Family

With all of these exciting things going on in Role’s life, some fans wondered how her ex-husband Bowlus felt about everything.

It seems like he is feeling just fine about Role moving on and starting a new family. When she announced her pregnancy, he tweeted her his congratulations and even suggested that she name her baby after him.


It’s great to see that both Role and Bowlus were able to move on from their divorce and lead happy lives.
