Detective Harry Bosch is back on the case, and he’s going undercover. Amazon Original Bosch, which stars Titus Welliver as a gruff Los Angeles homicide detective, is coming back for Season 5. That’s no
The trailer for the upcoming season, which Amazon unveiled last month, gives viewers a clue about what to expect from the next installment of the noir-ish police procedural, which is based on a series of best-selling novels by Michael Connelly.
Bosch Season 5 premieres April 19
Season 5 picks up 15 months after the end of Season 4, as Bosch investigates a murder at a Hollywood pharmacy, eventually going undercover to expose a sophisticated opioid pill mill. At the same time, questions are raised about one of his old cases, with some wondering whether Bosch crossed the line and planted evidence in order to put a bad guy away for good.
Jamie Hector is back as Bosch’s partner Jerry Edgar, as are Lance Reddick as Chief Irvin Irving, Madison Lintz as Bosch’s daughter Maddie, and Amy Aquino as Lieutenant Grace Billets. This season of Bosch is loosely based on the book Two Kinds of Truth. Previous seasons have been mostly based on City of Bones, Trunk Music, The Black Echo, A Darkness More Than Night, and Angels Flight.
All 10 episodes of Season 5 will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on April 19. Executive producer Eric Overmyer is back as showrunner, sharing the duties with Daniel Pyne, who was showrunner for Season 4.
Bosch Season 6 is already in the works
If you’re planning on binge-watching all 10 episodes as soon as they’re available, we have some good news: the next season is already in the works. Bosch has proven to be a winner for Amazon, and the streaming service announced in November 2018 that it had picked up the show for Season 6.
“Bosch is a customer and critical favorite and Amazon Prime members are fans of this long-running series that delivers strong storytelling, complex characters, and exceptional performances. We are happy to continue to work with Fabrik, Michael Connelly, and the rest of the team on this artful procedural drama,” Albert Cheng, co-head of television for Amazon Studios, said in a statement.
Season 6 will be based on The Overlook, according to Connelly’s website. In that book, Bosch investigates the murder of a doctor who has access to a dangerous radioactive substance and discovers that his killer might have stolen the material in order to carry out a terrorist plot to poison an entire city. Based on the release date for previous seasons, it will probably arrive sometime in the first half of 2020.
As for future seasons, fans of the gritty drama will have to wait and see. But Connelly has penned 21 Bosch books, with a 22nd – The Night Fire — scheduled for release in October 2019. That means producers have plenty of material to work with if they want to continue this popular series.
