Why Padalecki and Ackles say it’s time for ‘Supernatural’ to end
The actors who play Sam and Dean have made it clear they wanted to end the show in their own way. And the president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, said years ago, that Ackles and Padalecki were responsible for deciding when the series would end meaning that the network wouldn’t cancel the show.
But, as Padalecki said at VegasCon, it “was a community decision” to end the series with Season 15. At the same event, Ackles and Padalecki explained they wanted to end the show on a high note. They felt the timing was right for Season 15 to be the last season of Supernatural.
The actors also said they wanted to avoid pitfalls many other long-running TV shows have experienced where they ended on a slightly sour note because they had simply been on too long and the magic of the show had dwindled.
Season 15 of Supernatural starts Oct. 10, 2019, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
