When Does ‘Killing Eve’ Season 3 Start? The BBC Drama’s Return Date Needs to Come Sooner

Killing Eve‘s Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer have plenty to look forward to when the Emmy Awards air on Sept. 22. However, as the two brilliant actresses behind Eve Polastri and Villanelle get ready for their big night, many fans are left wondering when Killing Eve Season 3 starts back up again. BBC already renewed the drama series. However, the release date of the third season needs to come soon — or else fans might channel a bit of Villanelle energy themselves.

As expected, the second season finale of Killing Eve left fans with a massive cliffhanger. So of course, everyone is dying to find out when Killing Eve returns for season 6. However, it doesn’t look like there’s an official release date for the third season just yet.

That being said, the third season was renewed shortly after the second season premiere. On April 8, Sarah Barnett, the president of entertainment networks for AMC Networks announced the renewal. Barnett also revealed the upcoming season would feature a new lead writer.

“We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks,” Barnett said, per Variety. “Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons. As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence — we adore this show as much as our fans do.”

Although we may not know the premiere date for Killing Eve Season 3, the first two seasons of the BBC drama started around the same time. The first season made its debut on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Meanwhile, the second season was released on Sunday, April 7, the following year. So if BBC continues to stick with the same premiere date, it’s likely Killing Eve will begin airing new episodes on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

Regardless, filming for the third season has already begun. In August 2019, BBC American revealed the series began production. The network also teased actors Dame Harriet Walter and Danny Sapani would be joining the season 3 cast.

Is Eve dead or alive when the BBC series returns for its third season?

Following the second season finale, everyone was left wondering if Eve is dead or alive on the BBC drama. In May 2019, Entertainment Weekly spoke with Oh, and she revealed the storylines coming in Killing Eve season 3 were still being explored at the time. However, the actress had an idea of how her character would react if she lives to tell the tale.

“If Eve survives — it’s tricky because we haven’t shot it — but I would imagine we know each other so much better now it would be like, ‘Of course you shot me. Of course she tried to kill me,'” Oh explained. “But honestly, in the beat before the shot happens, there’s something in Eve that I think knows that it could happen, but she’s willing to walk away from that dynamic.”

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with EW, Comer teased what to expect for Villanelle in the third season. But will it involve Eve? Only time will tell.

“It’s that thing of: You believe someone’s dead, then you live with the fact that someone’s dead and then they’re not,” Comer said. “How do you come back from that? How does that change your relationship that you once had? Does it? Is there a new opportunity? Is there a chance or is there a need to finish what you did?”

Everything may be up in the air, but at least season 3 of Killing Eve is coming — whether you’re ready or not. Now, all you need to do is sit back and relax for the next few months, because you know you won’t be able to calm down once April rolls around.
