Fans of Pretty Little Liars don’t have to wait much longer to see some of their favorite characters return to the small screen. Though the original series ended in 2017, a whole new set of secrets and twists are in store for Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. The trailer for the new series was just revealed and fans want to know, who’s returning, will it be like the first show, and when will The Perfectionists premiere?

‘Pretty Little Liars’ ended in 2017

It has only been two years since we last saw the residents of Rosewood. The show ended with a two-hour series finale in June of 2017 after seven seasons on the air. In the finale, fans theories were confirmed when Mona was revealed to be the infamous A.D. Fans also saw the marriage of Ezra and Aria as well as the proposal between Emily and Alison.

Though the show just ended a few years ago, the spin-off has been in the works for a while. We first discussed the show’s follow-up in early 2018.

This isn’t the show’s first spin-off

True fans of Pretty Little Liars will know that The Perfectionists is not the first spin-off of Pretty Little Liars. In 2013 Ravenswood was picked up by ABC Family. The show was canceled after one season due to low ratings. Because the show ended so abruptly, fans were left with a few cliffhangers. Because the two shows shared the same world, Pretty Little Liars was able to give fans the answers to some of the lingering questions.

‘The Perfectionists’ will see some familiar faces along with a new cast

Pretty Little Liars stars Janel Parrish and Sasha Pieterse will reprise their roles in the spin-off. Parrish played Mona Vanderwaal, the show’s original “A”. Pieterse was Alison DiLaurentis, Rosewood’s Queen B before she went missing in the series opener.

Parrish and Pieterse will be joined this time around by Sydney Park, Eli Brown, Sofia Carson, and Gossip Girl alum Kelly Rutherford. Show creator Marlene King says that each of these characters will have their own secret to hide.

Entertainment Tonight asked King whether we could see appearances from other stars like Shay Mitchell, who most recently appeared in the breakout hit You and is slated to appear in another show based on the author of Pretty Little Liars, Heiress. King told the news show, “I think anything is possible.” When asked about other possible cameos she said, They’re always welcome. We would always want to find a place for them.”

The series is based on a book

Like Pretty Little Liars, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is based on a book series by author Sara Shepard. The series takes places in the fictional town of Beacon Heights, Oregon and is shot in Portland, Oregon. While Pretty Little Liars stays pretty true to its book origins, the spin-off strays a bit more. King told Entertainment Tonight, “…the books have a twist in them that would be kind of impossible to pull off on a TV show. So I think it was great inspiration for the show, but we kind of go off [book] a little bit sooner rather than later.”

In the new series, Alison has moved to Beacon Heights to take a teaching job at a prestigious university. The show creator says that there is no time jump from the original show and fans can expect a real-time progression from where things left off in 2017. Expect to see Alison and Emily’s three-year-old twins along with Alison and Mona.

The series will premiere with a 10-episode season on Freeform. Be sure to binge watch all seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars on Netflix before Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists premieres on March 20.
