When Does ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 6 Premiere? Here’s The First Teaser
‘Schitt’s Creek’ has aired for five seasons
The CBC and Pop TV series has aired for five seasons. Schitt’s Creek stars Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy as the Rose family. Patriarch Johnny Rose was the owner of a chain of video stores. However, when he loses all of his money, he and the family are forced to move to a small town they purchased many years prior.
The series depicts the Rose family as they learn and grow through this experience. Former soap opera actress Moira has to cope with obscurity, while adult children David and Alexis are forced to grow up and establish careers and relationships for the first time. Throughout it all, though, they have one another.
The series earned several Emmy nominations
Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian series, and Pop, the U.S. network it airs on, was relatively unheard of until more recently. However, when Netflix picked up the first couple of seasons, the series began to make waves in a major way. This led to the fifth season receiving multiple Emmy nominations.
Father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, who also created the show, received nominations, as did O’Hara for her performance as Moira. Sadly, Schitt’s Creek didn’t take home any of its four possible awards. But the good news is that they’ll have one more chance to do so.
Here’s the first teaser for Season 6
The final season of Schitt’s Creek, Season 6, was announced in early 2019. The creators announced that they were hard at work, and we were excited to learn when the season was due out.
Now, we have a date. A teaser featuring the Roses in formal wear and frolicking in front of the Rosebud Motel was released on Nov. 18, 2019. According to the brief video, the first episode of Season 6 will be released on Jan. 7, 2020.
Why is ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 6 the last one?
Fans were understandably upset to learn that Season 6 of Schitt’s Creek could be the last one. However, co-creator Dan Levy says it was “the right choice,” though he isn’t opposed to revisiting the Rose family in the future.
According to the younger Levy, “Season six felt like a great time to end on a high note with our fans and to give them exactly what they wanted without overstaying our welcome. When the dust settles, maybe there’ll be an idea that creeps into my head. I know that everyone is more than willing to come back.”
We’re worried about the absence of this character
Yes, the Roses are at the center of the series. But there are a few other regulars who we count on seeing in Season 6. In the teaser, Stevie Bud, David’s best friend and the co-owner of Rosebud Motel is seen, as his David’s fiance, Patrick. But one notable cast member is missing.
Where is Ted? Alexis’ boyfriend, whom she has inexplicably not moved in with yet, leaves for a six-month program on the Galapagos Islands. Alexis is set to go with him, but Moira’s breakdown in the final moments of Season 5 could set her back. Is there trouble for this couple ahead? We’ll have to wait until January to find out.
