When Does ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 6 Premiere?
It’s time to head back to Hope Valley. When Calls the Heart is coming back to the Hallmark Channel, and viewers can expect some big changes in the upcoming season. Here’s when the show will premiere, and what we can expect from Season 6.
Season 6 premieres on February 24
Season 6 of When Calls the Heart premieres Sunday, February 24 at 8/7c on the Hallmark Channel with an episode call “Phone Rings and Heartstrings.”
The show will pick up roughly a year after the death of Elizabeth Thatcher’s husband Jack. “Hearties” were devastated when Jack died
Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth, told ET that the new baby isn’t the only change on the horizon in Season 6.
“I think fans should be excited to tune in to season six because it’s really a whole new world for Hope Valley,” Krakow said. “Your favorite characters are back, [as well as] a few new favorites, and we’re really getting to see how everyone moves on. It’s gonna be a breath of fresh air.”
New cast members for Season 6
While Daniel Lissing, who played Jack, won’t be back for Season 6, two new faces (who will be familiar to Hallmark movie fans) may help fill the void.
Kevin McGarry from Winter Castle and A Song for Christmas will star as Nathan Grant, the new Mountie in Hope Valley. Chris McNally from The Sweetest Heart will play Lucas Bouchard, a gambler and saloonkeeper with a mysterious past.
Will either of the two new men in town win Elizabeth’s heart? We can’t say for sure just yet, but at least at first, fans should expect things to be strictly platonic.
“Although Elizabeth won’t be hurrying into any new romance, I can tell you that friendships between them will develop,” Krakow told Parade.
McGarry elaborated on the possibility of a romance between his character and Elizabeth. “She’s newly on her own, widowed,” the actor told ET. “She’s not looking to jump into anything, so these are just two new guys that are in the town that it might potentially lead to something down the road… there might be some chemistry!”
Changing times in Hope Valley
In addition to a few new residents, the citizens of Hope Valley will also need to get used to another big change: the telephone. During the season premiere, Abigail (Lori Loughlin) prepares for the arrival of the new technology, which will bring the rural town closer to the outside world.
Elizabeth will also have to deal with a decision that’s familiar to many women: whether she should return to her a job as a teacher after the birth of her son. Loughlin said that it’s an issue that stikes close to home “for many women in today’s world.”
“She has her own dilemma this season of being a single mom and having to go back to work and what that means leaving the child home with childcare during the day,” the actress told ET. “So we touch upon on that and her struggle.”
