When Is ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 5 Airing? Who Will Guest Star?

Netflix fans should have their eyes peeled in 2019 for the return of the Shelby clan in Peaky BlindersBased off of a real gang in the early 1920s, the show follows Thomas Shelby and his family gang, known as the Peaky Blinders, as they prowl the streets of Birmingham and (likely) move to the states for even more domination.

While the story is excellent and the production value is high, the excellent cast and talented guest stars are what keep Peaky Blinders fans coming back season after season. Curious as to who you’ll see next? Take a look at who’s been cast, as well as when we can expect Season 5 to be available for viewing.

Sneak peeks of what’s to come for Season 5 have already been released

NME notes filming for Season 5 started on September 17 — and though we don’t know too much about what to expect from the Shelby family (and the foes they’ll meet along the way), some eagle-eyed fans have noticed clues of what’s to come. The publication notes trailers were spotted near The Black Country Living Museum in Birmingham, which has 26-acres of buildings and streets that have been rebuilt to look like they were from the Industrial Revolution. It’s the same space the producers have been using since the show started, so we’re excited to revisit the original streets once again.

As for what’s new, Stoke Sentinel notes creator Steven Knight said the infamous Glasgow razor gang will ruffle the feathers of the Blinders. NME also adds the creators said they’re filming Season 5 all across the U.K., and additional photos showed Cillian Murphy reprising his role of Tommy Shelby while sitting behind a very impressive-looking desk, marching through fields, and riding a black horse. We may even see the Shelby family head toward the U.S., as that’s what was hinted at the end of Season 4, too.

Not only that, but folks nearby have reported that they heard gunshots and quite the ruckus near the filming location. Louise King, 34, said, “I was walking to a meeting in the Titanic and heard gun shots and [someone] shouting in a Birmingham [accent] over the large wall that used to be the heritage market.”

Who will guest star, and will Alfie Solomons return?

Famous folks from all walks of life have guest starred for seasons of Peaky Blinders in the past — so who can we expect in Season 5? It seems Anya Taylor-Joy is set to join, as she’s featured in a photo posted to the show’s official Instagram. Fans may remember her for her powerful performance in The Witch or her lead role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. Aside from Taylor-Joy, other actors set to guest star include Sam Claflin, Brian Gleeson, Neil Maskell, Kate Dickie, Cosmo Jarvis, and Emmett J. Scanlan.

We’re not sure who the main villain is going to be, but Stoke Sentinel notes the creator said Season 5’s big bad is going to be inspired by Billy Fullerton, the leader of the Glasgow razor gang. “Truth be told the Glasgow gangs were pretty much the most feared so I thought it was time we went north of the border,” he said.

Here’s another question on the minds of loyal viewers: Will Tom Hardy’s infamous Alfie Solomons return? One of the final scenes in Season 4 included Tommy Shelby shooting Alfie on the beach, so it seemed set in stone that he wouldn’t return. But NME also states that Hardy didn’t want to part ways with his character so soon. While Alfie’s fate was up in the air for awhile, we don’t expect to see him again in future seasons.

Can’t wait for Season 5? Unfortunately, fans may have to sit tight longer than they want to. Filming just recently began, and publications note it looks like the new season should be out in Spring 2019 if all goes well. There is good news, though — and that’s that it looks like we’ll be getting more seasons after this next one, too.
