When ‘This Is Us’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘The Good Place,’ and More TV Shows Return in Winter 2020

The New Year means many programs come back to TV after a mid-season break. Because of the sheer volume of TV shows available today between streaming services, network TV, and cable the following list focuses on only one category: network TV. Keep reading to find out when various programs from CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox will return with all new episodes. 

Jan. 9, 2020

The Good Place: The fourth and final season of The Good Place returns Jan. 9, 2020, at 8:30 p.m. EST on NBC. There are only five episodes left in the popular show with the series finale airing at 9 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2020. 

Law & Order: SVU: The long-running crime drama — it’s been around for 21 seasons — starring Mariska Hargitay returns to NBC at 10 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2020. 

Young Sheldon: Iain Armitage returns as a young version of The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) when Season 3 of Young Sheldon returns to CBS at 8 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2020.

Mom: Actresses Allison Janney and Anna Faris continue their portrayal of a hilarious and dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship in the CBS sitcom, Mom, on Jan. 9, 2020, at 9 p.m. 

Jan. 14, 2020

This Is Us: Audiences will be able to watch all the drama between members of the Pearson family come Jan. 14, 2020, at 9 p.m. when Season 4 of This Is Us resumes on NBC.

The creator of the series, Dan Fogelman, has said fans can expect the future of This Is Us to include individualized episodes on Kate (Chrissy Metz), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kevin (Justin Hartley). Watch episodes from Seasons 1 – 4 on Hulu.

Prodigal Son: Fox’s new crime drama starring Tom Payne, Michael Sheen, and Bellamy Young picks back up in the middle of  Season 1 on Jan. 20, 2020, at 9 p.m. Watch previous episodes of the Prodigal Son on Fox’s website and watch the trailer for the series below. 

Jan. 23, 2020

Grey’s Anatomy: Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and the rest return to TV on Jan. 23, 2020, at 9 p.m. on ABC in Season 16. Watch Seasons 1-15 on Netflix and catch up on newer episodes on ABC’s website.

A Million Little Things: Premiering right after Grey’s Anatomy is A Million Little Things. The show’s second season will resume at 10 p.m. on ABC come Jan. 23, 2020. Earlier episodes in Season 2 of A Million Little Things are available to stream on Hulu.

Feb. 12, 2020

Survivor:  At 8 p.m. on Feb. 12, 2020, Jeff Probst and Survivor returns for Season 40 on CBS.

Feb. 16, 2020

NCIS: New Orleans: In a new time slot, the cast of NCIS: New Orleans returns to CBS at 10 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2020, moving from Tuesday to Sunday nights. 

Feb. 23, 2020

The Rookie: The ABC drama starring Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, a rookie in the Los Angeles Police, ended on a cliffhanger with the fate of one officer unknown. Season 2 picks up again at 10 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2020. 

April 2, 2020

How to Get Away with Murder: Fans of lawyer Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) will have to wait until winter’s over to learn about her fate in the final episodes of the show’s sixth and final season. How to Get Away with Murder won’t return to TV until 10 p.m. on April 2, 2020, before the series officially ends in May 2020.
