When Will ‘Arrow’ Season 8 Be on Netflix? The CW Series Returns for Its Final Run
The wait is almost over — but not for everyone. On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the eighth and final season of Arrow returns to The CW with new episodes. But, with the premiere coming around the corner, viewers without cable are wondering when they get to stream the series finale. So when will Arrow Season 8 be on Netflix? Some fans will have to hold out a little longer before experiencing the end of the beloved series.
‘Arrow’ Season 8 Netflix release date
Fans couldn’t be more excited about the future of Arrow when the series comes back on Oct. 15. Of course, viewers are dying to know what will happen to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the rest of Team Arrow before the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event in the eighth season. But, as always, viewers on Netflix will need to wait some time before watching the new season online.
Typically, new episodes of Arrow are added to the streaming giant’s queue around eight days after the season finale airs on The CW. For example, the seventh season finale made its live debut on May 13 and made available to stream on May 21.
That said, it seems fans will see the final season on Netflix sooner than season 7. According to TVLine, the eighth episode of the new season will air on Jan. 14, 2020. Given the final season’s 10-episode count, it’s possible fans will say goodbye to the CW series two weeks later on Jan. 28. And if this happens, Netflix will likely release Arrow Season 8 in early February 2020.
Will ‘Arrow’ leave Netflix in the future?
On May 15, Deadline reported Netflix and The CW — under CBS and Warner Bros — did not renew their contract. The deal, first introduced in 2011 and renewed in 2016, guaranteed CW titles on Netflix. Without the deal, new titles like the Arrowverse’s Batwoman and the Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene were shopped for streaming right individually. But, what does this mean for Arrow?
According to Deadline, anything that premiered through the 2018-19 season will continue to be on Netflix “during the broadcast life of the series and for a number of years beyond that.” This means shows like Arrow will continue to add new episodes to Netflix until the show is canceled. The show will then be available to stream on the platform for an undisclosed amount of time. However, it’s possible the CW series will eventually leave Netflix. But, as of now, only time will tell.
What is happening when ‘Arrow’ returns to The CW for its eighth season?
Heroes fall and legends rise when Arrow Season 8 premieres on The CW. The superhero series has already promised a number of returning fan-favorite characters, including Thea (Willa Holland) and Roy Harper (Colton Haynes). And of course, it all leads up to an emotional series finale.
When speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Sept. 11, showrunner Beth Schwartz teased the final 10 episodes, explaining that they feel like a “greatest hits” album.
“This season is definitely a reflection of all the previous seasons,” Schwartz told the publication. “The premiere is very nostalgic of the pilot and of season one, visiting those sets, like Queen mansion, that we all love and we all have [people] we’ve tried to bring back a few times — those characters that were really there from the very beginning and helped to create this series and what made it so successful.”
The showrunner also revealed what it was like to work on the final season and hinted at plenty of tears as production continues. “It definitely feels like this is the right time for the series to end, but I feel like it’s not going to feel quite real until that last script of the finale comes out. And then I feel like there’s going to be a lot of tears,” Schwartz said. “I’m sure it’ll be the same thing on the last day of filming on set. That’s when it’s going to feel even more real when we’re actually going through it.”
No matter how you plan to watch Arrow when it returns for its eighth and final season, it seems the CW series will go out with a bang. And honestly, did you expect anything less?
