When Will Baby Sussex’s Name Be Announced? Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Instagram Announcement Gives a Clue
The royal baby watch is over, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed a baby boy this morning! While some details have been announced from the royal family, the matter of the name is going go to be a bit of a wait for those wanting to know.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby boy born May 6
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child, a baby boy, arrived on May 6, 2019. The Sussex Royal Instagram account made the birth announcement today, noting:
“We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.
The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”
When will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce the baby name?
While royal baby watchers were pleased to find out that the baby finally arrived as well as the gender and weight, it seems the matter of the name will still be a bit of a wait.
In their statement, they noted: “More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”
There are no details about how many days we will be waiting on the baby name, but it’s certainly going to be more than a day before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reveal that piece of information.
Prince Harry spoke outside in Windsor, sharing: “I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy, early this morning, a very healthy baby boy. Mother and baby are doing very well. It’s the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.”
Additional information came from the Palace’s statement:
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs this morning. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news. The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.”
Why will the name announcement be delayed?
Don’t forget, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a statement previously that spoke to their wish to maintain some privacy. The fact that royal fans even got the news of their first child’s birth so soon was unexpected.
At time, they shared in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby. Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
Further, it’s royal tradition that the baby’s name isn’t formally announced until a few days following the birth, PEOPLE noted, explaining it was four days after the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s third child that his name was announced.
Prince William and Middleton announced Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s names two days after they were born.
By comparison, “Princes William’s name wasn’t announced for a week and Prince Charles’ for an entire month!”
