When Will ‘Riverdale’ Season 4 Be on Netflix? The CW Release Date Has Fans Hyped

Despite popular belief, Riverdale is not a Netflix original series. Although many fans discovered the show on the streaming platform and its spinoff — The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — found its home there, Riverdale belongs to The CW. And as the fourth season approaches, fans have been snooping out where they can tune in. So when will Riverdale Season 4 be on Netflix? Fans are dying to know what happens next for Archie (KJ Apa) and the rest of the gang.

When does the fourth season of ‘Riverdale’ come out on The CW?

Viewers have been anticipating the return of Riverdale since June 17. Entertainment Weekly confirmed all the fall 2019 premiere dates for The CW, including the Riverdale release date on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. ET.

The publication also shared the premiere of Nancy Drew, the latest addition to the Archie Comics TV universe. The first season starring Kennedy McCann will make its debut immediately after the new Riverdale episode ends at 9 p.m. ET.

Will Season 4 of ‘Riverdale’ be on Netflix or will the series leave the streaming platform?

With all the streaming services popping up these days, it’s getting harder to determine what will stay or leave Netflix in the near future. NBCUniversal’s Peacock recently decided to pull beloved shows like Parks and Recreation and The Office from Netflix’s queue. Meanwhile, WarnerMedia chose to move Friends to HBO Max.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t look like Riverdale is leaving Netflix anytime soon. According to Deadline, The CW did not renew their contract with the streaming tycoon. Of course, this sent fans into a panic. But the deal ending only means new CW shows — such as Katy Keene, Batwoman, and Nancy Drew — are open to new streaming deals.

As Deadline explained, older shows on The CW that premiered through the 2018-19 season — like Riverdale and Arrow — will be available to stream on Netflix “during the broadcast life of the series and for a number of years beyond that.” So basically, Riverdale — and its upcoming seasons — will be on Netflix as long as The CW continues producing the show.

‘Riverdale’ Season 4 Netflix release date (UPDATED)

Unfortunately, you have some time before the fourth season of Riverdale arrives on Netflix — that is if you live in the U.S. Typically, the teen drama is released on the streaming platform eight days after the season finale airs. But since season 4 has yet to come on The CW, fans still have a few months of waiting before binge-watching new episodes.

That being said, we have a general idea of when the fourth season will drop. For the first three seasons, Riverdale aired their season finales in May with a Netflix release date eight days later. If the stars align and The CW continues with the same schedule, it’s likely fans will see the series on Netflix in late May.

Meanwhile, fans in the U.K. play by a set of different rules. Instead of a full season release at the end of every season, Netflix drops a new Riverdale episode a few hours after it airs on television. So U.K. viewers get to watch season 4 starting Oct. 10 at 8 a.m.

Although cable cutters might be envious of U.K. fans, remember you can still watch new episodes through The CW app if it comes down to it. Regardless, the future of Riverdale on Netflix is enough reason to celebrate. So here’s hoping season 4 is the best yet.

Update: Riverdale Season 4 will be on Netflix starting Thursday, May 14, 2020.
