When Will ‘Survivor’ Season 41 premiere?

With the finale of Survivor: Winners at War comes many questions regarding what’s coming next. When can we expect to see the Survivor Season 41 premiere on CBS?

Production was halted on ‘Survivor’ Season 41 and 42

Survivor Season 41 was set to begin filming on March 24 in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. However, On March 11, 2020, host and producer Jeff Probst sent a letter to the crew to postpone filming due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

“Due to the growing short-term uncertainty surrounding the global spread of COVID-19 and the corresponding desire for the continued well-being of our amazing crew, we have decided to push back our start date for Survivor season 41,” Probst wrote in the letter, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Although it might seem easy to quarantine the 20 contestants and surrounding production crew, it is more than fans might think.

“Our crew numbers are over 400 and are flying in from over 20 different countries, creating a need for more time to fully analyze and create our new production safety plan,” the letter continued.

When will ‘Survivor’ Season 41 premiere?

“Our intention is to begin production after the S40 live show,” Probst wrote on March 11, 2020. “Therefore, subject to new information, our new planned start date for production would be on or about May 19, 2020. Our intention is to still shoot both seasons 41 and 42.”

Since Probst wrote that letter to the crew, lockdowns have continued all over the United States. Fiji is currently only reporting 18 cases of the coronavirus, according to the Worldometer, whereas the US has over 1.4 million cases, with over 80,000 deaths due to the virus.

Los Angeles county’s stay-at-home order has been extended through July 2020, so it does not seem likely that production could begin before the order is lifted. If filming could start in August, there is a chance we might see an October 2020 premiere of season 41.

Fans do not see ‘Survivor’ Season 41 premiering anytime in 2020

“They used to flip filming from July-August and aired in late September,” one Reddit user wrote. “Granted, that wasn’t during a pandemic.”

Fans point out that as long as they could do the 39 days of filming over two months, there might be a fall season.

“If they can start filming by mid-July, we can have a fall season,” another fan added.

With the stay-at-home order extended through July in LA, it doesn’t seem likely that the cast and crew could fly out to Fiji in mid-July.

“I doubt we’ll get another season this year,” another Redditor wrote. “With all of the flying everyone would need to do, it just isn’t safe.”

While fans doubt there will be a season 41 this year, a few past contestants suggested other ideas. Former castaway Rob Cesternino hopes that Survivor could film in the midwest over the summer instead of Fiji.

If the cast and crew can fly out to Fiji late summer or early fall, it looks like we will see season 41 of Survivor in February 2021. Or, if they decide to shoot somewhere in the United States, it might be sooner. As of right now, CBS has not announced a set premiere date for the show.
