When will ‘This Is Us’ Return in 2019?
Those of you who live for Tearjerker Tuesday will have to wait more than a month to see what happens next.
That’s right. Award-winning family drama This Is Us just had its “fall finale” and will go on hiatus until after the holidays. (As most shows do at this time of year.) In case you missed the teaser at the end of the most recent episode that told us when the story reconvenes, here’s what we know about when the show returns in 2019.
But first, if you missed the fall finale …
… it was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. The third installment of the hit show has featured many storylines and has taken us to many different places. (Heck, it could’ve been an early episode of Game of Thrones with how many different characters and storylines it has going on now.)
Here’s what we know (and yes, there are spoilers here): Randall had a comeback performance in his big debate against Councilman Brown, but learns after the fact he’s too far back in the polls to make up the ground and win. Randall and Beth’s daughter Tess comes out to them — in what was probably the most powerful and emotional scene of the whole episode. Kevin is unsuccessful in his trip to Vietnam to find more information about when Jack and his brother Nicky were stationed there. And from the rapid-fire sequence we saw at the end of the episode, it would appear that Kate and Toby are having a baby boy.
But there are so many things left up in the air thanks to the flashforward scene at the end of the episode! Do Randall and Beth, everyone’s favorite power couple, end up getting divorced? Why isn’t there a flashforward scene including Kate — she doesn’t die, does she? And holy toledo, is Nicky Pearson actually alive even though we’ve been led to believe for two-and-a-half seasons that he died in Vietnam?!
We aren’t going to get any answers at least until the show returns.
When does ‘This Is Us’ return?
As hinted at in the ending credits, This Is Us is set to return on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. It will be the 10th episode in the drama’s third season.
As Express notes, the return date for the fall series is a week later than it has been for the previous two seasons. Season 2’s midseason finale aired on November 28, 2017, and returned January 8, 2018. The first season’s fall finale ended a week later, on December 6 because of the show’s Christmas special, then returned on January 10.
Express also notes the January 15 return only applies to the US. The third season of the hit show still has no confirmation date in the U.K.
