Where is Donald Trump’s Dad from?
Legacy is important. Knowing your family’s history is a privilege that not all people have.
Being aware of where you came from and your family’s genealogy can help you figure out a little more about yourself, such as what diseases run in your bloodline, your background, and more.
Usually, people who grew up with their parents know exactly where their parents are from. But it appears that President Donald Trump may need to do some more research on his own background.
Where does Trump say his parents are from?
On Tuesday, the President stated that his father was from Germany.
“My father is German—was German,” Trump said during a meeting with
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “Born in a very wonderful place in Germany, so I have a great feeling for Germany.”
The problem with the statement is that Trump’s father, Fred, was not born in Germany at all.
Where is Trump’s father actually from?
Fred Trump was actually born in the Bronx in New York. However, Trump’s grandfather Friedrich Trump was actually German.
Friedrich was born in Kallstadt, which was a part of Bavaria at the time. He emigrated to the U.S in 1885, shirking his military duties, according to the Associated Press.
He first moved to New York City, but later settled in Seattle.
He became a U.S. citizen on Oct. 27, 1892 while living in Seattle and was able to vote in the 1892 presidential election.
After making money in the U.S., Friedrich tried to move back to Germany but was denied access. When he tried to resettle in his home country, he was expelled and had to return to America.
How many times has Trump claimed that his father was German?
It is unclear whether Trump actually believes that his father is from Germany as this isn’t the first time that the President has brought this up.
Last year at a NATO summit in Belgium, the President also claimed that his father was from Germany.
“Both of my parents are from the EU,” he said. “Despite the fact they don’t treat us well on trade.”
While on a trip to Scotland last year, he made the claim once again.
“Don’t forget both of my parents were born in EU sectors—my mother was Scotland, my father was Germany,” he told CBS News when discussing trading.
In an interview with Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, he also stated that his parents were born in Europe.
“My parents were born in the European Union,” he said. “I love these countries, Germany, Scotland. They are still in there, right?”
Where is Trump’s mother from?
Mary Anne MacLeod Trump was born in Tong, on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland.
She grew up poor in a two-bedroom home with her 10 siblings.
In 1930, she left Scotland to join her sisters in New York. Six years later, she met Trump’s father at a party.
