Where is Ryan Cabrera Now?
Anyone who listened to top 40 music in the early 2000’s has probably heard of Ryan Cabrera. At the time, Cabrera was a young singer with spiky hair who sang hit songs like “On the Way Down” and “True.”
However, it has been a long time since Cabrera’s songs was last heard on the radio. As such, many people might be wondering: What happened to Cabrera and where is he now? Here’s what we know.
Ryan Cabrera’s first album was a hit
Cabrera rose to fame in 2004 after the release of his first album, Take It All Away. He released two singles off of it — “On the Way Down” and “True” — and both of them found a decent amount of success, charting in the top 20 on the Billboard chart.
Take It All Away also ended up being certified double platinum.
Cabrera seems to appreciate the fact that his early 2000’s hits are timeless songs that many people still love. He told The Morning Call: “I think ‘True’ and ‘On the Way Down’ are songs you could throw out today and people would still be, like, ‘Oh, that’s a cool song.’ That’s why you go all over the place and you’ll still hear it in restaurants or on Sirius radio.”
Ryan Cabrera’s later releases could not replicate the same success
Despite the fact that Cabrera’s first album did really well, his later releases failed to capture the same level of popularity.
In 2005, he released his second album, You Stand Watching, with singles like “40 Kinds of Sadness” and “Shine On.” The album itself peaked at number 24, though neither of those songs reached the top 40.
He continued to put out more singles in the next several years, but his last album was the 2008 release, The Moon Under Water. None of his songs have charted since 2005.
Ryan Cabrera became known for reality TV appearances
Of course, Cabrera did not disappear from the limelight. At some point, Cabrera went from being known for his radio hits and more for his appearances on different reality shows.
The first show Cabrera was on was actually The Ashlee Simpson Show in 2004. He was dating Ashlee Simpson at the time and her father was his manager, so Cabrera had a prominent role in the series.
In 2010, he appeared on the last two seasons of The Hills because he was dating Audrina Patridge. That same year, he moved on to dating Tess Taylor and appeared with her in the show Pretty Wild.
Cabrera told Radar Online in 2016 that The Ashlee Simpson Show was “100 percent real,” though there was a lot of editing and scripted scenes in the other shows he was on.
“When me and Audrina did The Hills we were in a real relationship, but what you saw on the show was all fake,” Cabrera said. “They put in scenarios and drama and all that stuff just to make a television show… What was going on in our real lives and our actual relationship was completely, completely different.”
What is Ryan Cabrera doing these days?
Cabrera has not appeared in a whole lot reality shows anymore with the exception of some scenes here and there in The Miz and Maryse’s show, Miz and Mrs., as well as The Hills: New Beginnings.
These days, Cabrera is focusing a lot on touring and writing songs. He has been playing numerous shows this past year and he is currently on the Pop 2000 tour with artists like O-Town and Aaron Carter. The tour is expected to end in January 2020.
He is also looking to release another record with songs he has been working on for a long time now. He told The Morning Call: “The new stuff is definitely a different, updated sound. I experimented a lot with different directions, trying new things, trying to grow … It’s gonna be fun to see people’s reaction to some of the new stuff.”
