Which ‘Below Deck Med’ Cast Member Is a Total Foodie?
While it is obvious that someone like Chef Ben Robinson or Chef Adam Glick from Below Deck Mediterranean would be total foodies. But there is one crew member who consistently shows her appreciation for all culinary delights.
Captain Sandy Yawn has shown on a number of occasions she appreciates an artfully prepared meal. She often marveled at Glick’s talents and knows that exceptional culinary experiences for the guests usually translates to an exceptional tip too.
But the health-conscious captain also has a very wide palate and admits to indulging in some personal favorites, which she refers to as “Sandy snacks.”
This is her ‘go to’ snack
Yawn recently chatted with Bravo’s The Feast about what’s in her fridge right now. She had all the healthy items checked off: kombucha tea; fresh-squeezed orange juice; eggs, spinach, and tomatoes. She adds that she loves omelets.
But the one thing she really loves is cereal. Her collection rivals the one Jerry Seinfeld had on display on Seinfeld. “Obviously I have like five boxes of cereal! Mini Wheats, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, and Froot Loops…” she told The Feast.
Yawn chatted with Showbiz Cheat Sheet earlier this year about her love of breakfast cereal. “I had Froot Loops today,” Yawn laughed at the time. “However, I get the smaller boxes where it’s just like a cup. I don’t eat like a whole bowl.” Looks like Froot Loops may win as a favorite for Yawn. She seems to keep a steady supply on hand.
But she also keeps it healthy
Yawn is very consistent with her water drinking. “I drink a lot of water,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “And, honestly, I don’t drink alcohol and that’s a big part of [keeping a youthful appearance].”
She’s also down to try new ways of eating too. Yawn avoided eating fish after working for a marine conservation nonprofit organization, Yawn told Bravo’s The Feast. Then when Yawn moved to Los Angeles she went vegan.
However, after a year of trying to adhere to what can be considered a pretty strict diet, Yawn had to abandon vegan ship. “OK, so… vegan I am not,” she said. “I eat fish responsibly that’s on the [sustainable] list.” Yawn added going totally meat-free zapped her energy and she didn’t feel well.
And goes with the flow
What may make Yawn the ultimate foodie is that she’s incredibly flexible. Her partner, Leah Shafer is gluten intolerant. Since Shafer has to be careful in her food choices, Yawn says she lets Shafer make decisions when they are dining out.
“I mean, I’m one of those people [who’s laid back about food],” Yawn told The Feast. “I’m not that person [who has to decide]: As a captain, we constantly make decisions. When I’m with someone else, i don’t want to make a decision. I don’t want to choose.”
But there is one thing you should never mess with when it comes to food. Don’t be late with her toast. The Below Deck Med crew bumbled her toast order one morning while she was dining with guests who are friends. The toast incident became a running joke and Yawn even made a Clubhouse appearance wearing a “toast” t-shirt. Wrapped around an anchor, the t-shirt read, “It’s not all about that toast, ’bout that toast, ’bout that toast.”
