Which Marvel Stars Deserve a Pay Raise?
The idea of Marvel actors getting raises might boggle some minds, since the average person would cheer getting anything approaching a seven-figure payday. Still, there’s no arguing that many actors have only boosted Marvel’s bottom line.
Especially after the record-obliterating grosses of Avengers: Endgame, one could argue that everybody deserves a raise. Endgame has made $2.7 billion dollars worldwide and is close to overtaking Avatar’s number one spot, with $2.8 billion. Domestically, it’s a fairly distant second behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but we’ll deal with Star Wars raises another day.
Disney has a reputation for being tight with its salaries, but Marvel Studios has certainly shown its willingness to open its pocketbooks. Robert Downey Jr. got half a million for the first Iron Man, but back-end deals on Infinity War saw him get a cool $75 million.
Here are some actors that we think deserve a bonus, in alphabetical order.
Before becoming the ruler of Wakanda, Boseman had already shown considerable diversity. Not many actors could convincingly play Jackie Robinson and James Brown, but Boseman did just that in 42 and Get on Up. Having helped make Black Panther Marvel’s most successful solo hero movie, Boseman should earn more than $2 million for the sequel.
Gillan hasn’t had a ton of screen time as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers movies, so perhaps it’s not so surprising that her net worth is $2 million. However, the Scottish actress is clearly on the rise. She deftly juggled action and comedy in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the success of which took everyone by surprise. Gillan will be back for Guardians 3 and the next Jumanji, and she’s only getting more interesting.
Well, after all, he’s only Spider-Man, who is nothing less than Marvel’s signature hero. Tom Holland has brought a youthful vigor to the role that not even Tobey Maguire could match. Holland was applauded even before he made his first Spider-Man movie, with his winning appearance in Captain America: Civil War. And his stock is only set to rise after Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out this summer. He has a $4 million net worth already, and that’s not going down.
She is already the highest paid of Marvel’s women, with a net worth of $140 million, but she absolutely deserves a raise, and Disney seems to be listening. She will get an estimated $15 million for the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie, which is ready to go before the cameras.
Many Marvel actors are Oscar winners, including Michael Douglas, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford and William Hurt. However, most of these performers have supporting roles in the movies. Larson is the only lead to have won an Oscar, and Captain Marvel made more than $1 billion worldwide. She should get more than $5 million for the sequel, especially considering Gal Gadot is getting $10 million for Wonder Woman 1984.
Lily had some experience with franchises, having appeared in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, which is why she had a net worth of $15 million. Now that she is fully the Wasp, she’s bound to get more than the $6 million she reportedly made from the second Ant-Man movie.
There has been surprisingly little talk for a solo Scarlet Witch movie, considering Olsen’s star has been rising ever since she broke out in Martha Marcy May Marlene. She got $5 million for Infinity War, and she’s set to reprise her role in a series for Disney+.
