Which ‘Queer Eye’ Cast Member Revealed He Would ‘Go For’ Jonathan Van Ness? ‘Jonathan Would Be My Guy’

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s popular reality show Queer Eye, you’ll know Jonathan Van Ness as the endless well of positivity-slash-hair and skin expert. You might also be familiar with his weekly podcast Getting Curious, his book that hit the New York Times bestseller list in 2019, and Road to Beijing, Van Ness’s stand-up comedy tour. However, his Queer Eye castmates know him as one of the nicest people in the world. One of them even admitted if he were to date any of the Fab Five, it would be Van Ness.

While stalking the Fab Fives’ Instagram feeds, Tan France says ‘Jonathan would be my guy’

In 2018, Elle magazine produced a video called “Queer Eye’s Tan France Insta-Stalks The Fab Five.” In the YouTube clip, France goes through each Queer Eye cast members’ Instagram posts and makes comments (both snarky and kind).

While looking over Van Ness’s pictures, France explains that he loves his husband (Rob France) very much, and he is obviously not dating anyone from the Netflix show cast. However, he admitted that out of all of the Fab Five–if he had to choose–it would be Van Ness.

“If I were to go for any of them, Jonathan would be my guy,” France shared. Of course, it makes sense for many reasons.

“The reason is, I do think he’s very attractive,” he admitted. “I think he’s the most photogenic of all of us, any of us.” However, France said the real reason had to do with the Queer Eye hairstylist’s personality and character.

“He’s got a heart of gold,” France said. “He’s truly the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.”

France says Jonathan Van Ness is the biggest risk-taker of his fellow ‘Queer Eye’ cast members

In the Elle video, France admits that his castmate’s bold looks are also why he looks up to Van Ness so much.

“Jonathan is a risk-taker,” France, the show’s fashion expert, spilled, because he “wears stuff that I wish I had the confidence to wear.” France is pretty envious of this quality.

“Of all the people I’m most jealous of,” France said. “it’s Jonathan.” It’s because Van Ness has the self-esteem to pull off outfits France wouldn’t dream of wearing.

“I can criticize in no way because he has the balls to do stuff that I only wish I had,” he said.

At ‘Queer Eye’ casting, France didn’t like Van Ness, he writes in his book

In France’s memoir Naturally Tan, published in June 2019, he wrote about meeting Van Ness at a casting session for the new Netflix show.

“He came up to me and started talking very loudly about his intimate life,” France penned. France remembered thinking of Van Ness: “‘There is no way … I could ever be friends with him.’”

Terry Gross followed up with this memory on her radio show Fresh Air.

“I was quite prudish before meeting Jonathan,” France admitted. He explained to Gross that he had a “sheltered upbringing,” having been raised by Muslim immigrant parents in England.

“I can’t imagine ever speaking like this with anybody,” France said he thought in the moment. But, luckily, France’s Queer Eye castmates opened him up to new experiences and boundaries.

“Being around Jonathan Van Ness has changed my boundaries,” he said on Gross’s podcast with a laugh. But, he admitted, “the parts that have been pushed are for the better.”

“I love that side of me now,” France shared.
