Which Royal Does Queen Elizabeth II Trust More Now After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Stepped Down?

Following Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex‘s decision to “step back as senior royals,” there’s been no shortage of questions about what that will mean for the royal family going forward.

Many have wondered who will take over for the couple now that they will no longer attend royal engagements and perform royal duties. Well, it’s being reported that Queen Elizabeth II has singled out one royal who she believes she can trust more than anyone else to pick up the slack following Megxit. Read on to find out who that is.

Who Queen Elizabeth has really put her trust in these days

On Jan. 8, Harry and Meghan rocked the monarchy with the announcement that they were stepping down as senior royals to live a more private life with their son, Archie. In doing so the pair had to abandon any current duties they held on behalf of the crown. The void they left with several organizations and previously planned engagements had to be picked up by other members of the family.

With so many of their own duties who could step up and take on extra work was a big question mark until the queen’s favorite daughter-in-law decided to help out.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex is the wife of Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son, Prince Edward. She and Her Majesty have always been very close and it seems now more than ever the monarch is leaning on her.

The Express noted that since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure Sophie has been front and center showing her support for her mother-in-law. In turn, the queen has put her full trust in the countess who has done everything recently from helping greet guests at Buckingham Palace to visiting Sierra Leone where she raised awareness for women’s rights.

“Sophie’s a long-term favorite of the queen and has been singled out as a person the Palace would like to help ease the burden,” a royal source told The Sun. “She’s very popular with other senior royals like Charles and Camilla, and has proved to be extremely good at public engagements.”

Will Sophie’s daughter take over Harry and Meghan’s duties too?

There’s also been talk that Sophie and Edward’s teenage daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, could shoulder some of the responsibilities the prince and retired actress once had.

According to The Express, Louise has already been spotted at some events with her parents perhaps to prepare her for a bigger role within the family.

Edward and Sophie kept both of their children out of the limelight when they were young so they could have a normal upbringing. But it seems now, in her cousin’s absence, Louise may be posed to help her family out by attending some royal engagements.
