Who Could Be a Skrull in MCU’s ‘Secret Invasion,’ Based on The Comics?
The Infinity Saga will be remembered fondly by many Marvel fans. It elevated the MCU to a place it had never been before and created the perfect culmination for 22 movies. The end of this era of Marvel took 10 years, and the next “Endgame”-like event won’t happen again for a while, but people already have ideas brewing. And the next big crisis for the remaining and incoming Avengers could be Secret Invasion.

What is Secret Invasion?
Nothing has been confirmed, which is how Marvel typically operates. But Secret Invasion has come up since Captain Marvel, since it introduced Skrulls into the MCU and Skrulls are the driving villains in that specific arc.
In the comics, the Skrulls have a plan to infiltrate Earth and the Avengers. They want to put themselves in positions of power so that they can take control of the planet for religious reasons and their people. They can do this with their shapeshifting abilities, displayed in Captain Marvel. There are good Skrulls, as we’ve seen with Talos and his wife Soren, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an evil sect of them somewhere, too.
While there are rumors and wishes that Captain Marvel 2 will be the start to this Secret Invasion plotline, it could take much longer.
Which MCU characters were secretly Skrulls in the comics?
If Marvel uses a Skrull invasion storyline, there are several Avengers in the comics that were compromised, with many you already know from the MCU. For example, there’s Hank Pym, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Daredevil are among the heroes that are switched out with Skrulls to infiltrate the Avengers.
On top of them, Invisible Woman and Elektra are two others that aren’t in the MCU (yet) that were also compromised by Skrulls.
This could be the next big crossover in the MCU
Using Secret Invasion as the next big crossover would work well. For one, it would pit heroes against each other and create a lot of tension, which is always great for MCU films (i.e., Captain America: Civil War).
Also, it could be a way to unite all facets of the MCU, including new ones. Because it’s such a big event, all teams of heroes join the fight, like the Runaways, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. Odds are, the Runaways from Hulu aren’t going to crossover into the MCU, but there are already rumors about X-Men and the Fantastic Four being rebooted.
And Kevin Feige himself commented on the possibility of evil Skrulls existing in the MCU, despite the fans seeing the Skrulls as useful in Captain Marvel. “The Skrulls are as diverse and multilayered as any other intelligent life form,” Feige said. “Certainly like humanity itself. And we happen to see good ones. I think there are probably better ones out there as well, like there are with any fully realized characters.”
And when ScreenRant outright asked Feige about Secret Invasion, he’s not ruling it out. “I mean, anything we haven’t done, anything from the books that we haven’t yet done in film, is always on the table.”
