Who is Annette Roque? Everything We Know About Matt Lauer’s Estranged Wife
Ever since Matt Lauer was terminated by NBC in November 2017 for inappropriate sexual behavior, there have been questions swirling about his estranged wife, Annette Roque, who’s been married the former TV host for two decades.
In January 2018, the two decided to begin divorce proceedings but their marriage had been on the rocks for some time. Back in 2006, Roque filed for divorce claiming that her husband had abused her mentally and caused her “extreme emotional distress, humiliation, torment, and anxiety.” However, she later withdrew that filing and signed a “post-nup.”
Sources revealed that at the time “Matt agreed to pay Annette a lump sum of millions as an incentive to stay with him to help him maintain his squeaky clean image as ‘America’s Dad.’ She also got an allowance every year, plus it was agreed that she would get a share of the value of all their homes if they did split.”
In August 2018, it was reported that Lauer agreed to pay her up to $20 million and hoped the divorce would be settled soon. Here is everything we know about his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Roque was born in the Netherlands
Roque was born in the Netherlands in 1966 to a Dutch mother and Indonesian father.
In February, she flew back to her home country in order to take some time for herself and was spotted having lunch with a friend at Rijks, the restaurant at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.
She met Lauer on a blind date
Roque and Lauer were set up on a blind date by stylist Maria Santoro in July 1997.
On October 3, 1998, they tied the knot at Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church on Long Island. It was Roque’s first marriage and Lauer’s second as he was previously married to Nancy Alspaugh.
They have three children together
The former couple has three children together.
Their daughter is named Romy and their two sons are named Jack and Thijs. Roque was pregnant with Thijs when she filed for divorce the first time.
Lauer is very close to his eldest son, Jack, who was 16 when his dad was fired from the Today show. Reports surfaced that after he was terminated, Lauer drove to his son’s school to explain to him in person exactly what had happened and why he was let go.
Roque is an avid equestrian and former model
Before she met Lauer, Roque was model.
In the ’80s and ’90s she was known professionally as Jade Roque and was featured in J. Crew and Victoria’s Secret catalogs. She was a spokesmodel for the cosmetics giant Revlon as well.
Roque is also an avid equestrian and so is her daughter. The family owns a horse farm in the Hamptons.
She lives in a home once owned by Richard Gere
In 2006, Roque and Lauer purchased a Hamptons estate that was previously owned by Richard Gere for more than $30 million.
The actor’s former residence is known as Strongheart Manor and boasts 12 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, two separate guest houses, a 60-foot-heated swimming pool, and a 240-foot private deepwater dock.
