Who Is Bryce Harper’s Wife, Kayla Varner?
After months of speculation, the big question about which team Bryce Harper would sign with has been answered.
On Feb. 28, 2019, reports surfaced that the All-Star outfielder was signing a record deal with the Philadelphia Phillies for $330 million. Now that everyone knows where Harper is going, people have questions about his personal life and who his wife is. Here’s what we know about Kayla Varner and what she posted on social media about Philly long before she knew her husband was going to play for the city.
They broke up before tying the knot
Varner and Harper were both born in 1992 and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada.
They started dating in 2012 and got engaged in 2014. The two were supposed to walk down the aisle in January 2015, but the wedding didn’t happen then and Varner disappeared from Harper’s social media accounts.
In July 2016 though, they got back together and announced that they were engaged again.
Varner and Harper said “I do” on Dec. 16, 2016.
She is Mormon
Varner was raised Mormon and is still a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints today.
When she and Harper got married they chose to have their ceremony at the San Diego Mormon Temple.
“I dreamt of being sealed in the San Diego Temple, and Bryce agreed that this was the right place for us,” she told The Knot News. “Religion was obviously the most important part of our marriage. The temple marriage is very sacred. Our religion is very private, and only certain people can attend the ceremony. So it was really nice to just enjoy that with our immediate family.”
Varner is an athlete too
Like her husband, Varner is also an athlete. She played soccer for Green Valley High School as well as Brigham Young University and Ohio State.
In high school, she was the team captain and Green Valley reached the playoffs every year. The school won two Sunrise conference titles, three Southeast division titles, and the Nevada State Championship while she was there.
Varner played 33 games at BYU and her career included the game-winning penalty kick in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen game against Marquette. After her sophomore year, she transferred to Ohio State where she had two goals and five assists in 20 matches.
Reading is another one of her hobbies and she’s a big foodie and dog lover.
She likes the views in Philly
Prior to her husband signing his massive deal with the Phillies, Varner shared a shot via Instagram of a view she and the MLB player once had from their hotel room in Philadelphia.
She specifically pointed out how her “favorite part was being able to see the top of the Philly temple from our window” and added a heart eyes emoji.
With his new contract, Harper will be able to get her a view just like that again in the City of Brotherly Love.
