Who Is Carys Zeta Douglas? Everything We Know About Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’ Daughter
We’re seeing double!
The daughter of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, Carys Zeta Douglas, made her magazine cover debut in the September 2018 issue of Town & Country alongside her famous mom. And just as other famous mother-daughter lookalikes Kaia Gerber and Cindy Crawford or Reese Witherspoon and Ava Phillippe, Carys and Catherine gave us those twining vibes.
The teenager’s appearance in the mag had many people asking questions about the only daughter of Hollywood royalty. Here’s what we know about her.
She didn’t grow up in the U.S.
Carys has a brother named Dylan and a half-brother named Cameron. She is the youngest of the Douglas children and was born on April 20, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Although she was born in the states she was raised in Bermuda where her grandmother, Diana Dill, is from and where her family has a home.
When her parents moved back to New York City, she didn’t have an easy time adjusting to the paparazzi tracking her every move since that didn’t happen on the island.
“I hated it. I used to get really upset. They would jump on the subway and sit right in front of me. I was, like, 6. I was confused,” she shared. “That’s when I knew, ‘If this is going to be what it’s like, I need to focus on who I really am, and this is going to be something that’s just going to happen, and I can’t do anything about it.’”
Carys thought her dad had a different job
Since Carys grew up away from the bright lights of the big city, she was unaware that her parents were huge celebrities and thought her father did something different than star in Hollywood blockbusters.
“I thought my dad was a pancake maker,” she said. “I didn’t know he was an actor. Honestly.”
She was bullied because of her father’s age
Michael Douglas is 25 years older than his wife so having a significantly older father made Carys a target of bullies when she was a child.
“People would be like, ‘Your grandpa’s here to pick you up,'” she admitted about how she was teased when he would get her from school.
She also had to learn how to deal with and understand that many of the stories written about him in tabloids were inaccurate.
“There’s this picture of my dad and it’s like, ‘Michael Douglas Cancer Again, Dying In a Month,’ ” she recalled. “I just started crying. I was like, ‘Why didn’t my parents tell me this?!’ Only it wasn’t true. People just always want a story to tell.”
There’s this misconception about her
The teen understands that people think she will be able to break into the entertainment business with no problem because of her last name but she claims that’s simply not the case and she’s trying to build her brand herself. She already has a rather large following on social media with more than 57,000 Instagram followers and counting.
“When I was younger I didn’t like the idea of having his name attached, this kind of ‘Douglas Dynasty’ stuff. I think what bothers me the most is that people think I don’t work hard for it, that I don’t need to work hard for it. That anything I do gets handed to me. When, honestly, I feel like it’s the opposite,” she said. “I feel I need to constantly prove myself to people — that I am not just my parents’ daughter.”
