Who Is Felix Kjellberg? Everything You Need to Know About PewDiePie

Felix Kjellberg (shell-berg) is currently the most successful individual on YouTube. While he started out making “Let’s Play” gaming videos, he has since shifted his content strategy to focus mainly on news and pop culture commentary.

Creating content on YouTube under the name PewDiePie (pew-dee-pie), Kjellberg has become a multi-millionaire. Here’s how he broke records as the most-subscribed YouTube star and how much he is really worth.

As of December 2018, a little over 73,400,000 accounts were subscribed to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel. He is the first person to reach this record-breaking subscriber count.

This number is the result of over eight years of consistently uploading content to the platform. Kjellberg published his first video on the channel on October 2, 2010, but began making videos before that on a different channel.

At the beginning of December 2018, PewDiePie was still the top channel on YouTube in terms of subscriber count. He was closely followed by Indian record label T-Series. However, he was still the most-subscribed individual on the platform.

PewDiePie net worth: How much is Felix Kjellberg worth?

Is PewDiePie a millionaire? Over the course of his YouTube career, Kjellberg has made multi-millions from his YouTube videos alone. However — along with an increasing number of online creators — he has expanded his income to include sources outside of his YouTube partnership.

Celebrity Net Worth reports that Kjellberg is worth an estimated $20 million.

How does PewDiePie make money?

The man behind the screen never thought he would be able to make money — let alone a career — from uploading gaming videos to YouTube. While it’s a much more common ambition today thanks to officially organized eSport teams and events, people weren’t making money playing Minecraft in 2010.

But he still knew he couldn’t ignore his passion for gaming. In the above video, Kjellberg described how video games inspired his creativity as a child and eventually led to his unexpected — and at the time unheard of — career making YouTube videos.

Like most YouTube partners, Kjellberg started out making money through YouTube advertisements that played before, during, and after his videos. Eventually, like many larger YouTubers, he began selling merchandise specific to his channel.

With the launch of YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium), he began making money through Premium subscriptions. Within the last few years, YouTube also launched a membership program in which subscribers could pay a monthly fee to support specific channels in exchange for exclusive web badges and other perks.

Kjellberg has also launched several mobile and console games, through which he earns revenue, and published a book, This Book Loves You, in 2015.

Making videos on YouTube changed Kjellberg’s life in more ways than his net worth. He has admitted that creating content online helped him overcome his shyness and boosted his confidence. Apparently, he was too shy even to speak in the first video he ever uploaded.

Now he uploads videos almost daily — most of which involve him talking, singing, and/or screaming straight to his audience.
