Shlesinger was born in Manhattan, New York, in 1983. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas, while Shlesinger was still very young, and that is where she spent the bulk of her childhood years. While in high school, she started exploring her skills as a comedian and also studied television and film. Eventually, Shlesinger attended Emerson College in Boston, majoring in film and honing her abilities as a comedian by joining a sketch comedy troupe.

Realizing that comedy was where she wanted to focus, Shlesinger moved to Los Angeles and started working the stand-up comedy circuits around the city. Eventually, she made her way to The Improv in Hollywood, one of the most famous comedy clubs in the world. Television started to take notice of the young comic and over the next several years, she appeared in several television shows, including Comics Unleashed and History of a Joke

In 2008, Shlesinger made history when she became the first woman to win Last Comic Standing. After that, there was nowhere to go but up for Iliza Shlesinger. She filmed the first of her hugely popular Netflix specials in 2012, titled War Paint. The second special, Freezing Hot, hit the streaming service in early 2015. The third special, Confirmed Kills, premiered on Netflix on September 2016. The fourth, and arguably most popular of her specials, Elder Millennial, was released on July 2018.

Shlesinger is beloved by her fans for her quick wit and uncanny ability to translate complex emotions and feelings into humorous moments. The second half of 2019 promises to be a busy one for Shlesinger, as she continues to tour the country. She also has a podcast — “Ask Iliza Anything” — that features a wide variety of celebrity guests and comedic ramblings from the distinguished host. So far, she has welcomed guests like comedian Jen Kirkman, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Dr. Drew, and Emily Osment.
