Who is Jeffrey Mezger, CEO Who Ranted Against Neighbor Kathy Griffin?
On a recent night in their Los Angeles gated community, KB Home CEO Jeffrey Mezger reportedly went on a profanity-laced tirade against his neighbor, comedian Kathy Griffin and her boyfriend. Griffin and boyfriend Randy Bick called the police to file a noise complaint against Mezger’s grandkids, according to reports.
Huffington Post published an audio file of the reported event, saying it obtained the file from Bick who in turn obtained it from a security camera on the property. Bick claimed he called in the noise complaint after hours of excessive noise from partying at the Mezger home.
After the police came to the Mezger house, an angry man, reportedly Mezger, can be heard yelling at Bick and Griffin. Homophobic expletives are uttered as he calls her a “c—t” and a “f—–g bald d—e,” mocking the comedian for shaving her head. He also referred to Griffin’s recent controversy involving a photo of her holding a fake severed head of President Donald Trump, saying Trump “kind of put the heat on.”
In July, Griffin had shaved off her long red locks in a show of solidarity with her sister Joyce Griffin, who was battling cancer. Joyce passed away Sept. 14.
Soon after the rant starts, a female voice, apparently Griffin’s, can be heard asking, “Randy, what’s happening?” The angry response was, “If you’re asking what’s happening, he called the cops on my five-year-old granddaughter, you f—–g c—t.” He went on to say, “Let’s declare war, a—–e, ’cause we got a lot to go for. Let’s bring it on, you bitch.”
A spokesperson for KB Home said that the audio recording appears to have been edited, but did confirm it is Mezger speaking on the recording, Fox News reported. “Mr. Mezger regrets losing his temper and the language he used. It does not reflect who he is or what he believes and he has apologized to Ms. Griffin in writing for using that language,” the spokesperson said.
Mezger has been CEO of KB Home since 2006, having worked for the company since 1993. On its website, the company reports it has been around for almost six decades and built more than 550,000 homes. It focuses primarily on first-time home buyers and was originally founded in 1957 to build new homes for returning Korean War veterans. The company describes itself on its website as a “recognized leader in energy and water efficient building.”
After joining KB Home in 1993, Mezger went on to become COO and executive vice president from 1999 to 2006. Since then, he has been CEO and president of the company. In 2010, Builder Magazine named Mezger “CEO of the Year.”
Griffin and Bick moved into their home a year ago, Huffington Post reported.
