Who Is Performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2018?

The weather will be below freezing, at least according to weather forecasts, but the cold won’t stop the 92nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. A holiday tradition since 1924, the parade’s 2.5-mile route stretches from 77th St. and Central Park West to Herald Square. Millions of people show up to see the procession in person, while many more tune in to the live broadcast on NBC, which starts at 9 a.m. ET and goes until noon.

And then there are the performers. From high school marching bands to Broadway stars, here are some of the more notable stars performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2018.

Anika Noni Rose

Tony-winner Anika Noni Rose may be best known as the voice of Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. She also starred in 2006’s Dreamgirls and the 2016 remake of Roots. At this year’s Macy’s parade, she’ll be performing on the 1-2-3 Sesame Street float.

Kelly Clarkson

The Voice‘s Kelly Clarkson will also be joining in the parade festivities. The singer’s new daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, premieres sometime in 2019.

Diana Ross and Family

The former Supremes singer and star of Lady Sings the Blues will be joined by members of her large extended family, including Tracee Ellis Ross and Evan Ross and his wife Ashlee Simpson-Ross.

John Legend

You can catch singer John Legend on the Discover Adventure! float from Build-A-Bear at this year’s parade. You can see Legend again, along with his wife Chrissy Teigen, on November 28, when NBC airs A Legendary Christmas, their new Christmas special.

Martina McBride

Country singer and Grammy nominee Martina McBride will likely be singing songs from her latest album It’s the Holiday Season at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She’ll perform on the Deck the Halls float from Balsam Hill.

The a cappella sensation Pentatonix just released a holiday album called Christmas Is Here! Expect to hear them perform their latest single “Making Christmas” on the Everyone’s Favorite Bake Shop float from Entenmann’s at this year’s parade.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora just released her new album, Phoenix, in November, which includes the single “Your Song” co-written by Ed Sheeran. She’ll be performing on the Fun House float from Krazy Glue.

Diana Ross and John Legend are just two of the 20 acts who you’ll see at this year’s parade. Also performing will be High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale, Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies, Dance Moms star Mackenzie Ziegler with Johnny Orlando, Grammy-award-winning band Sugarland, 15-year-old country music phenom Tegan Marie, and The Voice winner Brynn Cartelli.

A dozen high school and college marching bands will also march in the parade. Three performance groups – the Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Spirit of America Cheer, and Spirit of American Dance Stars – will also perform. Over 1,000 Macy’s employees walk the parade route dressed as clowns. And of course, there are the balloons. This year, there are 16 giant character balloons and dozens more novelty balloons. New balloons this year include Dragon Ball’s Goku and Macy’s Sunny the Snowpal.

Overall, more than 8,000 people participate in the parade. That includes the 90 balloon handlers required for each inflatable, plus all the singers, marching band members, dancers, and other celebrities. Three and half million people watch the parade in person in New York City, while another 50 million watch it on TV, making it one of the most-watched television events of the year.
