Who Is the Richest Cast Member in ‘Stranger Things?’

Stranger Things, now approaching its third season on Netflix, and showing no signs of slowing down, premiered to rave reviews and currently boasts some of Netflix’s strongest ratings.

From David Harbour and Joe Keery to Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown – the last of whom has inserted herself into the public sphere with grace, style, and a contagious personality – the Stranger Things cast couldn’t be better.

While Millie Bobby Brown may have surpassed David Harbour and Winona Ryder in terms of popularity, is she the richest star on the series? Popularity and money tend to go hand-in-hand; however, while Millie Bobby Brown landed a major raise for the upcoming season of Stranger Things, it won’t be enough to turn her into the richest cast member.

Winona Ryder is the richest cast member in ‘Stranger Things’

According to Elite Readers, Winona Ryder boasts a net worth of $18 million, making her the richest actor in Stranger Things. Furthermore, not only does Winona Ryder boast the highest net worth, her fellow cast members trail very far behind.

David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown both have an estimated net worth of $4 million, which is impressive, but still only a fraction of Ryder’s $18 million. Several of the other cast members, reportedly, all have net worths in the 2 to 4 million range.

So, how did Winona Ryder get to be so wealthy? Where does her money come from, and how many movies was she in preceding Stranger Things? Is the actress whom many love, yet thought was a bit of a forgotten gem, still the A-lister she used to be?

Winona Ryder’s career before ‘Stranger Things’

Winona Ryder was a major movie star in the 1980s and 1990s. She starred in Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Little Women, and Mermaids all between 1988 and 1994. While she continued to land some major roles throughout the early 200s, she made a name for herself in the two decades preceding.

Winona Ryder won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in 1994’s The Age of Innocence, way before snagging her Screen Actor’s Guild for Stranger Things in 2017. Not to mention, Ryder has been nominated for the Academy Award twice: once for Little Women and once for The Age of Innocence.

When you snag an Oscar nomination or two, and a Golden Globe win, your value in Hollywood increases. For, theoretically, you have the potential to bring people to the theatre – or in front of their couches – just to watch you. However, while Winona Ryder had a big name in the 1980s and 1990s, her roles in the early 2000s went widely unrecognized. This did not diminish her past accomplishments, but it did smudge her name a tad.

Now, with Stranger Things, Winona Ryder is back on the map and may be able to snag an impressive movie role soon. However, unlike many of her co-stars, this accomplished actress made a name for herself many years before Stranger Things (starring in Oscar-nominated roles in her 20s).

It should come as no surprise that she has amassed the greatest net worth on the series. She is, no matter how far gone her greatest film successes are, the show’s “star power.” While Mille Bobby Brown is now the show’s marketing material, Winona Ryder was the ticket seller before the series aired.
