Who is Tim Tebow’s Fiancee, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters?
Wedding bells will be ringing for Tim Tebow and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters!
The former NFL quarterback popped the question on Jan. 9, 2019, and revealed in an Instagram post that she happily accepted.
The two went public with their relationship in July with the athlete telling ESPN, “She is a really special girl and I am very lucky and blessed for her coming into my life. I am usually very private with these things but I am very thankful.”
Here’s what we know about the future Mrs. Tebow including why you might recognize her and how her half-sister, who was born with a physical disability, plays such a huge role in her life.
Nel-Peters is Miss Universe 2017
Nel-Peters was born on June 28, 1995, in Sedgefield, South Africa. In high school, she was elected Junior Deputy Mayor of her city George, in the Western Cape. "I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended." Nelson Mandela Today I officially graduated and received my degree in B.Com Business management and entrepreneurship. Today was about taking a moment to stop, look back and appreciate the hard work and dedication that I have put into educating myself. Thank you to my family who supported me in every possible way. This is one great hill done and dusted. Now for the many more to come. #graduation #nwu #pukke #entrepreneur #business #DemiForMissSA
She modeled part-time and won the Miss Universe competition on Nov. 26, 2017. She was only the second woman from her country to be crowned after Margaret Gardiner.
Her half-sister is her biggest inspiration
The South African beauty has a half-sister named Franje, who is disabled, however, she calls her younger half-sibling the “biggest motivator and inspiration” in her life.
“My half-sister was born without a cerebellum and is completely disabled,” Nel-Peters said via E! News. “She is my biggest motivator and inspiration because her situation makes me realize how special life is and I always want to work twice as hard, enjoy life twice as much so that I can enjoy it for her as well. Therefore, each experience I encounter is that much more special.”
How Tebow popped the question
On Jan. 10, Tebow shared the news that they were engaged via Instagram with three sweet photos of the pair and the caption, “Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world. You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
People noted that baseball outfielder proposed to his lady at sunset on his family’s farm outside out of Jacksonville, Florida. He surprised her by flying in her friends and family to witness the engagement and gave her 7.25-carat solitaire ring.
“I actually wasn’t really nervous. I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly,” Tebow explained. “But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”
After the proposal, Nel-Peters gushed about her upcoming nuptials saying, “I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim.”
