Tory Lanez’s early career

The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is a Canadian singer and rapper. After releasing his first mixtape in 2009, he caught the eye of Sean Kingston and was signed to his label. He released several mixtapes, including Chixtape, before leaving the label and becoming an independent artist. At the top of the 2010s, he continued to release songs and mixtapes, becoming very popular. He went on his first tour, the Lost Cause Tour, in 2014, and also during this time ghostwrote songs for Akon, T.I. August Alsina, Travis Scott and more.

Later success

After more songs and mixtapes, he released “Say It,” the first single from his debut album in 2015. The song samples “If You Love Me” by Brownstone. The song was a huge success, reaching No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. He released several more songs from the album and performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The album, I Told You, was released in 2016, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The album’s second single, “Luv,” is Lanez’s highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 19. In 2018, Lanez released two albums, Memories Don’t Die and Love Me Now. The former topped the Billboard 200 and the latter reached No. 4.
