‘Counting On’ Fans Question Who Pays For the Duggars’ Engagement Rings
The Duggars have seen their fair share of weddings. It seems that every year, new Duggars are either starting a courtship or planning their big day. But fans can’t help but wonder where the Duggars engagement rings come from; do they purchase them, do their parents help them out, or are they sponsored by jewelers? Counting On fans have their theories.
Eight of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar’s kids are married
Many people have been following the Duggar family since their first reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, premiered back in 2008. At the beginning of the reality show, Josh Duggar was marrying his longtime girlfriend, Anna Keller; the two had courted for nearly two years before tying the knot. Jill Duggar and Jessa Duggar’s weddings were also filmed for the show. Since then, 19 Kids and Counting was canceled and replaced with Counting On, where we have since watched Jinger, Joy, Josiah, Joseph, and John David Duggar tie the knot. But fans can’t help but wonder where the Duggars (and their fiancés) find their engagement rings.
All of the Duggar engagement rings look similar
For the most part, the Duggars all have engagement rings that are very similar in style. Of course, with most of the Duggars being very young when they get engaged, the rings are not exactly giant rocks the way some celebrity rings are. They’re dainty and pretty, and most of them are a solitaire diamond set in what appears to be a white gold band, though the specific design varies by couple. Josiah’s ring for his wife, Lauren, was a bit different — it was a square-cut diamond and looked to be set in multiple bands. But for the most part, the diamond size is relatively similar on all of the Duggars’ rings.
Fans have theories about how the Duggars get their rings
Though the family has never said exactly how they get their engagement rings, some fans have different theories. “I believe they’re all gifted from jewelers for publicity,” one user posted to Reddit, since some celebrities do have rings sponsored by jewelers. “Does [Jim Bob] buy rings for the boys to give?” the original poster suggested. It’s unclear if the men purchase the rings themselves, though fans seem to think that Jim Bob might have a hand in picking out the rings. There have also been theories that Jim Bob plays a large role in suggesting who his children should court, though that has never been confirmed.
It’s possible that Jim Bob helps out with the ring cost
It would make sense that the Duggars’ father helped with the ring cost, at least for his sons. Since none of the Duggar sons went to college, it is likely difficult for them to afford a nice ring of their own. Plus, with most of them marrying so young, they’ve hardly had time to build enough of a career to afford a ring that could cost upward of $1,000. Though it hasn’t been confirmed that Jim Bob helps pay for the rings, he does have a wealthy net worth thanks to success in the real estate industry, so it’s feasible he lends his sons a hand.
