Who Sarah Jessica Parker is Married to and How Many Kids They Have

Sarah Jessica Parker’s life is nothing like the single woman she’s famous for playing in Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw lived a life bouncing from one failed relationship to another, and while it was entertaining to watch, Parker has a much better situation in real life. If you’ve never taken a closer look at the actress behind Carrie Bradshaw, this is your chance. Here all the sweet details of Sarah Jessica Parker’s love and family life.

Sarah Jessica Parker met the love of her life on Broadway

There are few relationships in Hollywood that can be looked up to as “relationship goals,” but Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick definitely fit that category. They met when they were both starting out their careers on Broadway. Broderick explained to the Yes Network what it was like seeing Parker for the first time, and it’s the sweetest story

“I do remember first meeting her,” Broderick said. “I still remember very clearly seeing her walk down the street toward the movie theater… it’s very unique, because I wouldn’t remember most people the first time I saw them come down the street. [But] I remember it as clear as day.”

While they were dating, Parker and Broderick starred together in the Broadway play How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. During that time they were interviewed often to promote the show, which gave both of them a chance to gush about working with each other.

In 1996, Parker told the Los Angeles Times, “He’s [Broderick is] probably the funniest fellow I’ve met in my whole life,” she said. “He’s so bright, so handsome, I think he’s the most handsome man I’ve seen in my life. And he inspires me. I’m mad for him, totally.”

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have been married for 22 years

They married in a surprise ceremony after five years of dating. Guests thought they were attending a party but were shocked to find out it was actually a wedding. The most surprising detail about the wedding, though, was that Parker wore a black wedding dress. Years later when speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Parker explained the dress.

“Oh, I wish it was because I was badass,” she said. “I just was too embarrassed to spend any time looking for a wedding dress. There was a store that I liked that I knew, and I just went and got whatever they had hanging.”

How many kids does Sarah Jessica Parker have?

Over the years, Parker and Broderick have welcomed three children into their family. In 2002, they had their first, a son named James Wilkie Broderick. Then, seven years later, they welcomed twin daughters named Marion and Tabitha. The girls were born via surrogate because of a long struggle with fertility issues after their son was born. The experience was surreal for Parker, as she later explained to Vogue.

“Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them, it’s as if, um, it’s —suspended animation. The gestational experience is gone. It’s as if everything else disappears for a moment, and the world goes silent and — I can’t explain it except to say that nothing else existed … It’s so different, and equally extraordinary. I am very poor at describing it. But it’s amazing.”

The kids are now 16 and 10, so things are calming down for this couple. After the chaos of twins, they’ve been diaper-free for many years.

This year Parker and Broderick celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary, and they’re still going strong, despite rumors in the tabloids. Recently, Parker had to clear thing up on Instagram after the National Inquirer claimed she and Broderick had a screaming fight and were about to split. Part of Parker’s message read, “Despite your endless harassment and wasted ink, we are nearing nearly 3 decades of love, commitment, respect, family and home. There’s your ‘scoop’ from a ‘reliable source.'”
