Why ‘Barefoot Contessa’ Ina Garten is Publishing Her New Cookbook Sooner Than Expected

Ina Garten announced this week that she and her publisher, Penguin Random House, will be releasing her upcoming cookbook, Modern Comfort Food, sooner than she’d expected it to publish.

Garten’s sheltering in place ways

Once this pandemic is said and done, Ina Garten will emerge as one of the superstars of social media. The Barefoot Contessa star has used her Instagram and Twitter accounts to encourage, instruct, amuse, and generally hunker down with her followers and fans.

In an April 2020 interview with The Atlantic, Garten shared that while she misses ‘normal’ and her friends, she realizes her situation is not so bad.

“I always have to remind myself, I’m stuck in East Hampton with a husband that I’m crazy about. And the Instagram’s really given me a point of reference. I started it thinking I just wanted people to feel like I was reaching out and supporting them, but they kept asking me questions. And I just thought, ‘This is so great.’ It’s like a town-hall meeting for ‘what can I do with what’s in my fridge?’ ”

And so, the Food Network star has been using her platform to show us how to make comforting treats such as waffles, hearty soups and stews, cookies, frittatas, and even cocktails!

All about ‘Modern Comfort Food’

The Hamptons resident’s forthcoming Modern Comfort Food is her twelfth cookbook, joining previous bestsellers Barefoot Contessa Family Style, Barefoot in Paris, Barefoot Contessa at Home, and Cooking for Jeffrey.

Penguin Random House reveals that Garten’s upcoming collection “shares 85 new recipes that will feed your deepest cravings. Many of these dishes are inspired by childhood favorites–but with the volume turned way up, such as Cheddar and Chutney Grilled Cheese sandwiches (the perfect match for Ina’s Creamy Tomato Bisque), Smashed Hamburgers with Caramelized Onions, and the crispiest hash browns that are actually made in a waffle iron!”

These are the recipes that the Brooklyn, NY-born cook has been testing in her kitchen and posting on social media. Garten’s publisher assures her fans that Modern Comfort Food will be packed with “dependable, easy-to-follow instructions, with lots of side notes for cooking and entertaining–it’s like having Ina right there beside you, helping you all the way.”

Why ‘Modern Comfort Food’ has a new release date

The 72-year-old celebrated home cook was delighted to announce on Instagram recently that Modern Comfort Food, originally slated to release at the end of October, is now scheduled to publish by Oct. 6, 2020.

Why? Because, as the author says, it’s what we all need right now: soothing, comforting, home-cooked meals.

She shared in her post, “Good news!! Because we all need it ASAP, we decided to move up the publication date of my new book Modern Comfort Food to October 6th!
