Why Blake Shelton Passed on the Chance to Work with Pitbull Years Ago
The newest person he is working with is Latin artist, Pitbull. It turns out, they almost worked together years ago until Shelton decided to go a different direction. Find out what stopped him and more about their song.
Blake Shelton’s last collaboration got backlash
The country singer has been keeping busy releasing new music with other stars. His last one was “Hell Right” with Trace Adkins. It got some backlash due to a line that seemed to be dissing “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X.
The line was “Then the girl from the small town took off the ‘Old Town’ / Put on a little Hank Jr.” A lot of fans weren’t happy about this and a statement was released in response.
“It’s absolutely not throwing any kind of shade at Lil Nas X at all. Blake says this literally has nothing to do with anything at all except how much the song is played,” a spokesperson for Shelton told Variety. “It could have been ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ or any other [overplayed] song.”
The spokesperson then said, “Blake talked to Billy Ray [Cyrus], and he thought it was funny.”
He and Pitbull have a song called ‘Get Ready’
Shelton and Pitbull surprisingly released a song together called “Get Ready.” It’s a party song that is part of Pitbull’s album, Libertad 548. The song samples “Black Betty” except the new track says “Get Ready” which is sung by Shelton.
The country star tweeted, “Sooooo…. @pitbull and I just released a song together. Fair warning, if you stick this in your ear hole you may never get it back out!”
Pitball also revealed an inspiration behind the song. “We can thank your dog for the inspiration!” he wrote according to The Inquisitr. “Appreciate the support. Can’t wait for us to take it around the world so GET READY… Dale!”
Shelton’s dog is named Betty after the famous song. The country singer already has several nicknames like “Blakey.” Now he can add another one to the list because he introduces himself as “Cowboy Casanova” on the track.
He turned down working with him because of the language in a song
The two performers typically make music for very different audiences. They still almost collaborated years ago, but Shelton decided against it for an interesting reason.
“I got real close to doing a song with Pitbull one time,” Shelton told Ryan Seacrest. “There’s just something about me being, like, a middle America country artist saying the word ‘motherf*cker over and over again. It was like, ‘Man, I just don’t know if that’s going to go over with my soccer moms.’ So I opted not to, but I was honored.”
Fans seem to be thrilled with the new song. “I got it already and I loved it!!! ‘Cowboy Casanova'”one fan tweeted. “This is such a great fun collaboration can’t stop dancing to it. Can’t wait to see it performed live. #newfav,” another fan tweeted.
