In 2005, Pitt began a relationship with Jolie, his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star. They received a great deal of criticism from the press initially, considering that Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston when rumors about a romance with Jolie first started.

Still, Pitt and Jolie didn’t let the negativity slow them down and, in short order, started a family together. Pitt legally adopted Jolie’s son, Maddox, and then the couple went on to adopt two more children and welcome three biological children.

Over the next ten years, Pitt and Jolie became one of Hollywood’s highest-profile couples, with millions of fans tracking their every move. Rumors regarding infidelity and alcoholism dogged the couple, but they seemed to defy the odds.

That is, until late 2016, when Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, citing irreconcilable differences. Only days after the divorce announcement, a new report revealed that Pitt had gotten into an altercation with the couple’s oldest son, Maddox, while on the family’s private plane.

Details were sparse about the incident. Reportedly, the situation had gotten violent and caused Pitt to undergo an investigation by the FBI as well as the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services.

Does Brad Pitt have a relationship with his children?

Following the altercation on the plane, Pitt and Jolie became locked in a bitter custody battle over their six children. While their divorce has finally, after three years, gotten closer to being finalized, the years have taken their toll on Pitt’s relationship with his children.

Multiple news sources have reported that Pitt is not on speaking terms with his two oldest sons and that he only has a tenuous relationship with the younger children. Still, some reports claim that Pitt is working hard to repair his relationship with all of his children and that he has made a number of positive changes in his life, including living a healthier lifestyle and spending a lot more time with his extended family and his parents in Missouri.

Brad Pitt recently got introspective

In a recent interview, Pitt sat down and talked about the changes that he has made in his life and the way that he deals with negative thoughts. While he admitted that he’s easygoing for the most part, he did say that he does “lose it at times.”

He also talked about how he has been working on turning mistakes that he has made in his life “into lessons,” and that he is learning to “value his missteps.” Pitt went on to detail that what is really important is how a person behaves after the mistake is made and that is what really “defines a person.”

While Pitt didn’t talk specifically about his relationship with Jolie or his children in the interview, it is clear that they were on his mind at the time. There’s no doubt that the actor has reached a place of enlightenment in his life that will hopefully be able to bring him clarity and happiness.
