Why Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears Are Sister Goals
Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears are just like any other siblings — if you factor in the media documenting their every move. They fight, they spend holidays together, and they help each other through the trying times (like public breakdowns and teenage pregnancy, for example).
Still, decades after the two became famous, they still support one another’s careers and families. Their recent reunions prove Britney and Jamie Lynn are still sister goals, even as they raise their own separate families.
They show up for the big moments
The Spears siblings came together with their kids to celebrate Jamie Lynn’s oldest, Maddie, on her 10th birthday. Britney brought sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, and older brother Bryan made an appearance with his daughter Sophia.
Jamie Lynn famously got pregnant in 2008 at age 16 while starring in Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101. Now, at age 26, she recently welcomed her second daughter, Ivey Joan. The Instagram photo Jamie Lynn shared marks the famous family’s first photo with the new addition.
Jamie Lynn also shared an Instagram video of the whole family singing Maddie “Happy Birthday” as she blew out the candles on her cake.
They’re a support system for one another
When Jamie Lynn became pregnant at 16, Britney disclosed her feelings along with her support for her sister.
“That was special, but it was also strange because she’s always been the baby, and now the baby was having a baby. It was mind-boggling. I was shocked a little bit. But it was really cool, and she was happy. When she got to the hospital, we all thought it was going to be an all-day thing, and instead, the baby just sort of popped out. ‘OK, we’re happy now!'”
As Maddy approached her fourth birthday, Jamie Lynn shared how special her cousins (Britney’s sons) were to the family. “For now, Maddie’s biggest concern in life is when she gets to see her cousins next,” she told Glamour. “She’s always asking, ‘Why can’t we have Preston and JJ here?’ They’re very close. They’re like brothers and sister. They’re so stinking cute.”
Jamie Lynn needed a support system badly just last year, five months before Maddie’s birthday. Her only child at the time was involved in an ATV accident that trapped her underwater for several minutes. Luckily, first responders saved Maddie’s life, and she made a full recovery five days later. Britney flew to Louisiana to be at her niece’s bedside and posted this heartwarming photo to Instagram.
“Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece,” she wrote.
They keep each other in check
Finally, the Spears sisters are pros at what all siblings must master: keeping one another in line. When Britney, queen of pop, made a pop-culture faux pas forgetting Bravo’s Andy Cohen’s name, Jamie put her in check.
On Tuesday night, Spears brought Andy Cohen onstage at Radio City Music Hall. He crawled on stage during her performance of “Freakshow” wearing a chest harness and collar on a leash. Britney may have remembered the dance moves and words, but she forgot one crucial thing … Cohen’s name.
“So what the press is saying is … basically, I said I was Mariah Carey-ed,” Cohen said later. “She says, ‘I think you all know who this is. Give it up for him.’ My take on this is: First of all: Why would Britney know my name? She’s Britney, bitch! … I’m a mortal! And Britney is Britney. … I don’t [think she knows who I am]. She gave me what I want. I don’t need to think that she would even really know who I am. … I mean it’s pretty funny, right?”
Still, Jamie refused to let Britney soil the Spears name in the eyes of Cohen. Instagram account Comments by Celebs reposted the video on Wednesday. Jamie Lynn commented, “Looks I need to have a bravo binge with someone … WE LOVE YOU ANDY COHEN.”
We’ll all be eagerly awaiting the Instagram documentation of that Spears sister Bravo binge.
