Why Camilla Parker Bowles Might Be Scared to Become Queen
It seems that growing up, it’s nearly every little girl’s dream to someday be a princess. Of course, the majority of us never get to experience a life of royalty, but for Camilla Parker Bowles, it isn’t exactly all it’s cracked up to be. She and Prince Charles do seem to be in love, but the affection the two have for each other isn’t quite shared by the public. In fact, Camilla Parker Bowles might actually be nervous about becoming queen.
When Charles takes the throne, Camilla will become queen consort
If it weren’t for Charles, Camilla would obviously never be queen. But the two of them wed back in 2005, which means that when he takes the throne, she will become queen consort. The queen consort is the title given to the wife of a king; should Charles die, Camilla would no longer rule. The title essentially means that she has no royal power without her husband. Charles and Camilla dated for a while before he wed Princess Diana, though things between him and Diana were always rocky. He continued to see Camilla behind Diana’s back, and eventually, the marriage unfolded. Charles and Camilla continued dating and wed more than 15 years later.
Camilla has a very low approval rating from the public
Camilla and Charles haven’t had an easy time getting the public to love them. People seem far more focused on Prince William and Kate Middleton, though those two won’t rule for quite a while. But it’s almost as if people have forgotten that Charles and Camilla take the throne after the queen steps down. Back in November 2017, Camilla’s approval rating was only at 20%, per a poll of the British public. Charles’ rating wasn’t much higher at 36%. Meanwhile, Prince William, Prince Harry, and the queen all had approval ratings of more than 70%. This shows it won’t be easy for Camilla to gain public approval once she’s in her most important role yet.
The duchess might be scared she will never be accepted in the role
It would make sense that Camilla is scared about her role. Right now, she doesn’t have the public supporting her, which can be daunting when it comes to standing beside the future king. There have been rumors that Camilla won’t even be named queen consort, though at this point, those rumors don’t seem to be true. Stepping even more into the royal spotlight isn’t easy for anyone, but Camilla has had a target on her back ever since the affair that occurred more than 30 years ago.
The royal family has come under fire lately
To make things worse, the royal family has come under fire quite a bit over the last year. Royal protocol seems to have gone out the window on a lot of occasions, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship with the media has only become more volatile. Prince William was also accused of having an affair of his own earlier this year, though there didn’t appear to be much truth to those rumors. But it looks like the family has struggled in the spotlight lately, which means it might be an even rockier time than usual for Camilla and Charles to take over.
