Why Chrissy Teigen Is Getting Her Breast Implants Removed: ‘They’ve Been Great to Me For Many Years’

Before she was the host of Lip Sync Battle and star of Chrissy’s Court, Chrissy Teigen was a model. And like many young women in the profession, she got breast implants. But unlike some, she’s been honest about the procedure years later.

Today, many know Teigen more for her social media presence. As a popular internet personality, she’s known for speaking the truth when it comes to her personal life. Here’s what she told her followers about her decision to get her implants removed.

Teigen got breast implants when she was young

Teigen told Glamour UK in March 2020 that she had the procedure done when she was 20 years old, saying it was for her career as a swimsuit model. “I thought, if I’m going to be posing, laid on my back, I want them to be perky! But then you have babies and they fill up with milk and deflate and now I am screwed.”

“I want them out now,” she continued. “If I could do one thing, it would be to have a lift. I think you’re supposed to replace [implants] every 10 years. But when you have kids you think about [the risks] of surgery and I think, ‘This is not the way I want to die, in boob surgery.’”

She got a COVID-19 test done for surgery

Like the rest of the U.S. (and much of the world), Teigen has following the stay-at-home orders put in place during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. And in her signature honest style, she made fun of Donald Trump for complaining about the “invasive” swabbing done to test for the virus.

On May 26, 2020, Teigen posted a video of her getting swabbed on social media. When a Twitter user called her out for having a test done when she’s seemingly health, she replied, “Everyone in LA can get tested for free. I’m having surgery and had to.”

Teigen reveals she’s having her implants removed

That same day, Teigen posted on Instagram, officially declaring she was getting her implants removed. “They’ve been great to me for many years but I’m just over it,” she said, adding, “I’d like to be able to zip a dress in my size, lay on my belly with pure comfort!”

For those who had read the Glamour UK profile, this likely wasn’t surprising. And it also came after a few days of posting throwbacks from her early days as a model (including her time on Deal or No Deal). One of these was a topless image that was previously removed from Instagram.

She has received plenty of body criticism in the past

Teigen is no stranger to being judged for her body. While some may judge her decision to remove her implants (or to get them in the first place), she likely won’t let it bother her. After all, it was just a month ago that she previously dealt with an uprising of negative commentary.

After sharing a “thirst trap” video, Teigen was body-shamed. “Everyone[‘s] used to….surgically enhanced curves. I’ve been square my whole life and let me tell you, it’s paid off nicely in many ways,” she later wrote on Twitter. She added, “Imagine if one day I showed up with hips and an *ss. Ooooo you guys would be p*ssed then too!” The moral of the story? Let people do what they want with their bodies.
