Why ‘Counting On’ Fans Think Jim Bob Duggar Hates Jessa Duggar’s Husband, Ben Seewald

We’ve been keeping up with the Duggar family for years thanks to shows like 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On — and if there’s anyone we should be thanking for allowing us into their lives, it’s Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. This ultra-conservative Southern couple chose to have as many kids as possible, and now, they’re all growing up fast. Jessa Duggar, their 26-year-old daughter, has become a fan favorite as we’ve watched her court, marry, and start her own family with her husband, Ben Seewald.

We remember how beautiful Jessa’s wedding was — and parents Jim Bob and Michelle seemed thrilled for their daughter. Now, fans seem to think Jim Bob and Ben are in a constant feud. Here’s why.

Jim Bob and Ben allegedly have totally different religious views

It’s no secret that the Duggars are ultra-religious, as one of the reasons Jim Bob and Michelle chose to have so many children was because they considered it to be the will of God. According to In Touch Weekly, the Duggars consider themselves to be independent Baptists — but many others suspect they’re a part of the Quiverfull movement. While the Duggars have denied involvement with any part of the Quiverfull religion, the movement puts an emphasis on having as many children as possible so more conservative Christians will be in the world. Doesn’t sound too far off from the Duggars to many.

According to The Hollywood Gossip, Jim Bob and Ben are feuding due to their clashing religious views. The publication notes that Ben follows Calvinism, a branch of Protestantism. And an aspect of Calvinism that differs from what Jim Bob believes is that one’s path through life is already completely determined for them. Insiders have told The Hollywood Gossip that while the Duggars and Seewalds are totally civil on camera, this division of religion has put them at serious odds.

Ben’s also way more liberal when it comes to politics

Religion aside, it’s also important to note that the Duggars are extremely conservative in terms of their political views. Jim Bob was even a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives in his younger years, and the family also doesn’t believe in contraception, abortion, or equal rights for the LGBTQ community.

Ben, however, has much more liberal views than Jim Bob or the rest of the Duggar family. Romper notes he’s stated he doesn’t identify as either a Republican or a Democrat, and he also didn’t vote for Donald Trump. Not only that, but Ben has openly backed the Black Lives Matter movement and “Take a Knee” movement. The publication adds that Ben has also interviewed influencers who support these movements as well.

Will they ever discuss their differences head-on? Probably not

Even with their differences, fans seem to believe that Jim Bob will never make any slights against Ben — at least while the cameras are rolling. One insider told The Hollywood Gossip that as long as the money from the Duggars’ TV shows is coming in, Jim Bob will keep the peace. “They chase they almighty dollar instead of their doctrine,” the insider allegedly said. “It’s all about money. It’s crazy.” And, considering the Duggars also don’t seem to be big on divorce, we imagine even if Jim Bob does have an issue with Ben, he’d never ask Jessa to separate from him. Whether the Duggar patriarch likes it or not, Ben is family.

As for Jessa, she certainly doesn’t seem to mind her husbands slightly more liberal views. She’s currently pregnant with their third child, and in 2018, she also shared some of her tips for keeping her marriage strong. She told Us Weekly that as long as she and Ben continue to show gratitude toward each other and prioritize date nights regularly for just the two of them, she knows everything between them will remain just fine.
