Why Did This Video of Prince Harry Fixing Meghan Markle’s Hair Go Viral?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have struggled as members royal family, under such intense scrutiny. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in 2018, and since then, the British tabloids have been fiercely critical, mostly of Meghan Markle. The toll on the royal couple led to their resignation from the royal scene altogether. However, one video that went viral on Twitter recently shared a different story–a positive one. A story about a young, beautiful couple in love.
Why this video of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went viral
On Twitter recently, it was difficult to miss a video of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In the clip, Harry fixes Meghan’s hair at different events they attend. He’s smoothing it out, adjusting her ponytail, making her she looks her best.
“The most attentive husband,” the caption on the 24-second video read. The first clip is from an event in Morocco in 2019, Huffington Post confirmed. Then, it cuts to Cape Town, also a 2019 visit. Next, we see the royal couple in New Zealand in 2018, and finally, Meghan “launching her cookbook at the Hubb Community Kitchen in September 2018.”
As of publishing time, the video has 29 million views, over 164,000 retweets, and 733,000 likes. Even pop sensation Rihanna threw the video a “like.”
The Huffington Post recently interviewed the Twitter account behind the viral video, a Meghan Markle superfan that goes by the handle @ddarveyy, to investigate why the video was so successful.
Fan has loved Meghan Markle since long before the royal wedding (and baby Archie)
Apparently, @ddarveyy, or Michelle, was a huge Meghan fan “long before she met Prince Harry.” Why does she love the Duchess so much? She told HuffPo:
I came to see the genuine and kindhearted person she is. I was specifically impressed with all that she has achieved throughout her life and all the humanitarian work she has dedicated herself [to]. She was (and still is) somebody who really cares about not only the work she completes but also the people who follow it.
Michelle said that Meghan has always been a caring person, even with her own fans, back in the day.
“Back when she had her own personal social media, she would constantly interact with her followers and even had built relationships with a few of them,” Michelle confirmed.
The creator tweets about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when she gets “a sudden spark of creativity, or notice something from their engagements that is consistent.”
This royal family fan says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make her Twitter and Instagram updates ‘easy’
“When you follow each of their engagements, it’s not that hard to see the love and positivity they spread which makes coming up with content easy,” Michelle said about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
And what about when her content goes viral? Michelle says it’s “very overwhelming.” Still, she’s happy that it does because it’s all about spreading the joy.
“I enjoy it because it helps spread the love and word on Harry and Meghan,” she said. While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle inspire many negative reactions, Michelle reassured the Huffington Post that the “overwhelming majority” of tweeters who reply to her is supportive.
So many media reports and tweets about Markle feed (or at least reflect) the negativity that surrounds her. The Duchess has been hounded by British press in the last few years–and the online commentary doesn’t help. So, it’s lovely to see the opposite of that not only exist on the internet–but go viral.
“There is a lot of negative and unfair press against them, specifically Meghan, which is a shame and really disappointing,” the Twitter pro lamented.
The Twitter account has honored Meghan Markle’s philanthropy, as well
Michelle also tweets to share information about Meghan’s “past humanitarian work.”
“I made a thread on Twitter once highlighting Meghan’s pre-royal life achievements and that was a post that did get a lot of love,” Michelle wrote.
Not only that–Meghan Markle has inspired Michelle to do some charity work of her own. On Twitter, no less.
“We’ve had a #HappyFathersDayPrinceHarry which raised over $10,000 for two charities supported by Harry, including Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust,” Michelle told the publication. She thanked the royal couple for the motivation.
“Harry and Meghan really inspire us to participate and help support good causes and I think that’s really important for people who have such a large platform,” Michelle concluded.
We love that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are inspiring millions around the world–and helping to make a tangible difference to the suffering.
